aashu
well i guess some of u guys might remember that old school class of Glass rod being rubbed with Silk cloth produce a + charge and some other material rod(i dont remember the material name, sorry) rubbed with Flannel cloth produces - charge. and when a +vely or -vely charged object is brought near a conducting surface e.g. in this case the metallic body of PS3 especially near Blu-Ray drive it may induce opposite charge on it and when two opposite charges meet, boom u have current flowing and get electric shock. it is possible in theory and i ve experienced it in practical. and i finished my boards in 2000... i know everything i said might be entirely wrong according to Physics, but this is my assumption only. not to be taken very seriously. but let me know if someone agrees on it or tell me where i am wrong The material is ebony. By the way, you dont need two opposite charges to meet for current to flow. If you give a path for the charges on the glass rod to flow (for example you touch it while being grounded) then youll get a shock. So you're partly correct. i think this dicussion shud b movd to board exams thread' neway,,d xplanation goes likes dis: harsahil-d static charge prsnt on ur hand, coz ob xcessive Rubbin' induces only a small fraction ov opposite charge!so spark is less likely to occur! usually shock,,due to improper grounding(charge accumulating on metallic body) and spark-coz of static charge,,causd by usual rubbin,,n electro-magnetic components prsnt inside is usually neutralisd by charged dust particles prsnt in surroundings-reason why dust sticks mre to elctronic guds!!!---so spark(due to static charge,,very unlikely!!) saberwing-ure correct! i'll tell u 1 way,,thru wich i xperience static spark quite often.. i've a metallic stair case with vinyl(some polymer) mat on the sliding support..while i pass,,rubbing my hand on d vinyl mat,,static charge gets on,,n quickly i touch the metallic support beneath,,n voila here comes the spark=energy lost when electro-static potential energy of static charges get cnvrted to light n sound

deadlyvenom
Now here's the deal.I've tried almost everything possible.Formatting the HDD, reinstalling the firmware, fixing the grouding problem, booting without the HDD.And nothing works. However, the PS3 runs fine after its totally cooled down. And 10 mins later, it freezes.I really think this is a heating issue maybe coz of the wrong power supply or wrong power cables.I remember gaming on it all night when it first arrived, without any problems. So the last thing left is to try it at someone else's place with different power supplies and cables and see if it works? Can't wait for the next GI Bangalore meet coz I have to send it back to that EBAY dude as soon as possible. Harsahil
It's more like general knowledge so that explains that i have got electric shock from Xbox360, Mobile phone, metallic plate, my pc modem and even shaking hands when i get up from a plastic chair after some time. there's a spark and a sound too always accompanying. and just like Lithuvein when i sit using a cushion i never get an electric shock... btw i guess this question should be in "Kya aap panchvi pass se tez hai" cos that's the time when we study this stuff. :roflroll2: :roflroll2:

deadlyvenom
I msgd him twice about the problems. He says try this and that and it was fine when i tested it blah blah... So I told him its not working and I asked him for his address so that I could ship it back.I'm waiting for his reply. If he doesn't reply today I'll execute a charge back via paypal. In the meantime I wanna try this at someone else's place.I spoke to Hot snake pixel about it.He was very kind and agreed to let me try it at his place this weekend but I don't think I can wait
