During the VGX 2013 live show Nintendo of America honcho Reggie Fils-Aime walked on stage to bring a demo of Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze and was asked quite bluntly his opinion on the PS4 and Xbox One.
His response was quite mild at the beginning, congratulating the rivals for their launch, but right after he threw down the gauntlet of challenge.

I don't think so, but someone will start bashing the WiiU, then for some reason it'll turn into PS4 vs X1, then PC vs Consoles and finally it'll come back onto topic for just the tiniest moment before launching once again into the aforementioned cycle.

Oh look the popcorn's done. Ok, I'm set.

^ Not sure if you're being sarcastic, but from what I've read it's a damn good game. 94 on metacritic and 9/10 user rating too.

I was serious and not sarcastic. Its the kind of game that actually wants me to get a wii u. If only, i can find it and thr games cheap in india.

WTH nothing happened O.o , I think we jinxed the thread. Anyway on to the actual topic.

Nintendo are taking ridiculously dumb moves , they are planning on stopping Wii production cause they think its affecting Wii U sales as its selling more . They just need to put out a cheaper bundle without the tablet controller and get some 3rd party support.

Srsly its ridiculous not to have 3rd party support now and not get PS3/X360 ports. Even the Wii lost 3rd party support only well into the gen when PS3/360 became standard.

I dont think they can ditch the tablet. Wont that render a lot of games unplayable? I am pretty sure games like DX, Batman, that Ubi Zombie game etc use the tablet for a bunch of things. I doubt publishers would patch that out. This isnt exactly 3D on the 3DS, which just adds visual flair.

Yea but its still a gimmick and if the gimmick aint working( among the masses) they might as well at least try to save the system for the great games it has. Also I was under the impression games had a regular controller setting , since they need to be compatible with the pro controller too?

I am not entirely sure.

Looking at the list of games that work with the pro controller -

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Wii_U_games_that_use_the_Wii_U_Pro_Controller

It seems like most of the important games do work fine. But not all of them. Zelda, Pikmin and Mario 3D world do though. So it is do-able even if they have to cut off support for some games. Especially if it lets them drop the price of the console to 200-250 range.

Even if the WiiU gets 3rd party support, people will still prefer PS3/360 to play their games. Nintendo's strongest point is their exclusives.

Sure, 3rd party support will help people consider buying the console, but strong exclusives (and a price drop) will get them off the fence and get them to actually buy it

I honestly feel getting the WiiU in India (apart from grey market) is pretty difficult. There is hardly any presence of Wii....PS3 n x360 are quite available everywhere....nintendo hasnt done too much marketing in the India I feel, which ideally they should.....
