SD_2007
One of my friend yesterday bought a new basic rig with AMD fx 6300, ASUS M5A78L & Corsair vengeance 4 GB ram. He had 4 years old Powercolor 4850 1GB GPU & Cooler Master Thunder 600 Watts PSU. Now the issue is whenever he turn on the PC, the display is shut-down after 5-10 min. & the GPU is extremely over heated within that time. So what could be the issue? Is it compatibility problem with new mobo or the card's heat paste has to be change? Or it is any power issue?
ALPHA17
What is the airflow set-up inside his cabinet? Has he cleaned it up considering the recent components that have been added. I would suggest you try to change the thermal paste yourself if the card is out of warranty. That way, you get to learn something and if you screw up, nothing lost. Apart from that, why does he have a Cooler Master Thunder SMPS? The compatibility angle looks least likely. Can you get the temperature readings for the graphic card? Use an application like MSi Afterburner to log temperatures till the display terminates. Also does this happen irrespective of his usage or only if he tries to run a game? Wishing everyone on this thread a Happy, Prosperous and Cheerful 2014.

ALPHA17
^ No comments on how hopeless that SMPS is. But what about the other queries I asked? What cabinet does he have, any airflow inside, cleanliness?
SD_2007
Ya it is now cleaned bcoz of upgrade work through it is also a simple iball mobo with 2 fan inside. Nothing special airflow. Is CM 600wt thunder PSU enough for running AMD 6300 PSU & 4850 GPU alongside??
ALPHA17
^ Okay, can you please give me some images to work with and if possible a temperature log. Is CM 600wt thunder PSU enough for running AMD 6300 PSU & 4850 GPU alongside?? Technically it should be, by the wattage taped on its side but practically, I would never recommend it.
