Mass Effect 2 "Overlord" DLC revealed, priced

Technology is out to get us, and the upcoming Mass Effect 2 add-on proves as much. If you played through the first ME, then you already know about the transition from AI to VI programs.

In the upcoming DLC, titled "Overlord," an experiment that fused a human with VI intelligence gets out of control, creating the somewhat psychotic "VI overlord." With an ability to control any technology around it, the new human-VI hybrid is now running amuck, attacking Cerberus bases across the planet and sending Geth out to do its dirty work. If Shepard (that's you) can't stop it, the Overlord will beam off-planet and assault neighboring systems.

The DLC adds five new areas for your Paragoning or Renegading pleasure. No release date was confirmed, but the new content will go for 560 Microsoft/BioWare Points, the equivalent of $7.00 USD.

:fear:

LOL I havent even bothered with the free DLC (apart from whatever was there at release) so there is no chance in hell of paying for this.

I really wish they would do a DA and make a proper expansion with 8-10 hours of gameplay. It doesnt even need to be a major plot point, just some "side adventures" of Shepard and his merry band of morons would do nicely.

A new patch for 360 has been released...

Hello Mass Effect 2 Xbox 360 players.

This morning a patch for Mass Effect 2 went live on the Xbox 360. This patch contains the following:

Scanning for minerals has been optimized

Fixed an issue with marking all entries as viewed in the Journal

Fixed an issue relating to text and the menu screen

Fixed an issue relating to players starting a new game and loading a save

Fixed multiple issues when loading a save containing DLC when DLC isn't present

Fixed an issue with ammo flashing when it can't be picked up

Fixed an issue with crosshairs

Fixed an issue with Grunt's Fortification power

Fixed an issue with enemies and cover

Fixed an issue where players could receive additional talent points

Fixed an issue where squad members would overwrite ammo powers the player had assigned them

Currently this patch is only for the 360, but a patch for the PC version of Mass Effect 2 is in the works and we will have details as soon as they are ready.

I can already see a lot of ppl on IVG are very happy with this news!!!

PC version patch MIA!!! :)

Truth be told I dont think a PC version patch was/is really needed. I played the unpatched version and cant think of any technical flaws that needed to be fixed.

Well its more like gameplay design choice though.

Plus why would you planet scan on the PC? Just use a save game editor and dont bother with the tedious flow breaking mini game BS. Of course it cuts out a hefty chunk from the playtime too, I am guessing thats why Bioware made it the way it is.

Story between ME2 and ME3 to be told via DLC

BioWare will tell the story between Mass Effect 2 and Mass Effect 3 with downloadable content packs, VideoGamer.com can reveal.

BioWare has released only one story-based downloadable pack since the January release of Mass Effect 2. The Kasumi - Stolen Memory DLC introduced a new party member and an associated loyalty mission.

The Overlord DLC, due in June, will see Commander Shepard investigate a Cerberus research base home to a hybrid AI.

BioWare intends to release a "continued stream" of DLC, lead producer Casey Hudson told VideoGamer.com as part of a Mass Effect 2 retrospective.

"We have a bunch of packs that are in the works right now," Hudson said.

"So, for the time being there's going to be a continued stream of DLC for people. We'll start to have packs that'll tell the story between Mass Effect 2 and 3. But beyond that we kind of have to see how people are responding to what we have and go from there."

Mass Effect 2 was released in January to critical acclaim. We gave it ten out of ten in our review.

Although BioWare has confirmed that work has begun on the third game in the RPG shooter series, the Canadian developer isn't ready to reveal details on it just yet.

"It probably won't be for quite a few months that we talk about Mass Effect 3," Hudson told us.

That makes an E3 reveal next month highly unlikely.

Earlier this year EA chief operating officer John Schappert said the publisher will release "something far reaching from Mass Effect" in the January through March 2011 quarter.
