Mining returning in Mass Effect 3'Oddly theraputic' mini-game will be back

Despite being one of the longest mini-games of recent times the 'mining' mini-game will be making a return in Mass Effect 3.

BioWare's Casey Hudson confirmed the return of mining in an interview with UK website Videogamer.com.

Hudson said about the feedback from Mass Effect 2 on the mining elements: "It was like, 'It's strangely addictive. It's kind of therapeutic'. But there were different personality types, too. And one of the personality types that we hadn't encountered was there were a lot of people that when they know that they can go and get resources through something like that, they literally want to mine the entire galaxy that night. And then, yeah, when you spend eight hours in a mini-game, it does become... there's only so much too it. And we never expected that it'd be played that way. We thought people would noodle in it a bit, get a few resources to get an upgrade, and then go back and do the rest of the game."

He continued: "When you look at the feedback, there are things that people liked about it, and functionally it serves a purpose. I don't think there's a problem with any of those. I think it's the way people relied on it, and the way we relied on it maybe too much in parts of the story. And also just when you think about the speed of it."

I scanned every f**king planet. I just had to see the 100% sign on every cluster.

Me too. Besides, you don't have to actually scan the planet to get to 100%. All you need to is press A and then go back.

You also end up running into a lot of random missions if you keep doing it.

by the end of the game, i was so fed up of scanning that i checked wiki for which planets had the n7 missions and went to them specifically for it. how you guys managed 100% scanning is beyond me... that sh*t sucked balls :(

I'm not saying it was the best way they could have handled it but it honestly wasn't that bad either. You just had to click on planet and EDI would say "Anomaly Detected" if there was a mission available. It hardly took a few seconds per planet.

Also, mining was a LOT better on the PC version.... using the controller analog sticks for scanning was a painfully slow on the 360.

Mass Effect officially headed to the big screen

In a world where Doom, Dungeon Siege, Far Cry, Postal, and Mortal Kombat were morphed into movies, it’s refreshing to see a videogame-to-film adaptation that finally makes sense. Congratulations, Legendary Pictures. In addition to probably having a multi-million dollar film franchise on your hands, you’ve won our cautious optimism.

We’re sure that you’re absolutely thrilled.

As of now, the film’s in “the early stages of development,” according to Heat Vision, so concrete details are few and far between. Apparently, “I Am Legend” writer Mark Protosevich is hoping to put his quill to work on the picture, while Avi and Ari Arad will share producing duties with Legendary’s Thomas Tull and Jon Jashni.

Most famously, Legendary lent a producing hand on “The Dark Knight,” in addition to “300″ and “Clash of the Titans.” It’s also handling the Warcraft movie.

Meanwhile, BioWare co-founders Ray Muzyka and Greg Zeschuk will serve as executive producers, as will series producer Casey Hudson. Good combination, right? We’re thinking this one might just be a winner.

Which is great. After all, the better the Mass Effect movie does, the better the chances are that BioWare will decide to produce its surefire success spin-off: Hamlet as depicted by an all Elcor cast.

Sorry if posted before, but THIS is one game-movie adaptation I want to SEE!

I'll be playing ME2 over the weekend. Does anyone know the link to that article on how to go about Mass Effect 2? It went something like you should get the resources early on etc., can't find it on google.

NVM, it's posted here.

Mass Effect Going Multiplayer

The next Mass Effect might not be a solely single-player experience. A new job posting on LinkedIn suggests that the series is taking a turn toward multiplayer.

Maybe "suggests" is too weak a verb - the BioWare Montreal opening (picture below) is for a "Multiplayer Programmer (Mass Effect Franchise)." Not much room for interpretation, there. The ideal candidate will have to come up with "solutions to deal with network latency, de-synchronization of data between networked machines/players, packet compression, cheating, and interrupted connections." They'll also have to "work with databases that allow for chat rooms, client/server games, player matching, player stats, etc."

One other tidbit, from the position summary: "[Multiplayer Programmers] work with both the front and back ends to take existing single player user experiences and make them multiplayer safe." I guess you could argue that means co-op. However, in a way all online play is just a translation of the single-player experience; both have the same basic mechanics, after all.

Back in February, EA chief operating officer John Schappert said something "far-reaching" would be coming for Mass Effect. Maybe this is what they meant?

Focus more on story and making the last Mass effect game Epic than adding multiplayer and all that sh*t

Why is everyone in the game industry trying to make each good SP game to MP .. :P

was that a rhetorical question?

the answer to that is fairly obvious. i can't imagine how mass effect multiplayer would work though... unless they ditch even the few bits that made me2 something of an rpg and just go all out into the shooter category.
