30 facts about modi from rediff. good read.

2. Modi was born on September 17, 1950. He makes it a point to take the blessings of his mother Heeraben on his birthday. He bonds reasonably well with his four brothers and sister, but doesn't display it in public. His wife's name is Jashoda, and the couple separated soon after marriage.

6. In closed-door meetings he likes multi-media presentations. He has a flair for technology and has a child-like enthusiasm for it. In meetings he has displayed that he has a fine sense of humour -- though it can sometimes be hurtful.

7. He is extremely prudent in money matters, and would like to pay the least and get the most while finalising contracts of various ministries. He can be called economical, if not a miser. Yes, he is very economical with his own money as well.

9. He has spent enough time in the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, so his language, nuances of behaviour and expressions can never be Westernised. He definitely likes Western watches, accessories and homely comforts, but that's all.

He is quite conservative, even old-fashioned, on issues relating to women and family, though he will never say so in public.

10. The man's rise is impressive when one considers that for almost three decades he lived with little money. When in his 20s, he arranged and acted in a play in Vadnagar to collect funds to build his school's boundary wall. He has even served tea in his maternal uncle's canteen at the bus stand in Ahmedabad while studying in college.

12. He logs on to the Internet every morning without fail and checks all that is written about him. Even if he is travelling, he gets newspapers and cuttings of what his critics are saying about him.

13. He is the decision-maker. Period. He will not send any decision to a Group of Ministers.

14. Modi has no 'best friend'. He is a loner.

16. Modi is a workaholic. After going online at 7 am or even earlier, he would call his party men from all over Gujarat; now, he calls people from all over India.

He attends office early in the morning, and works till 10 pm if need be. He is a leader who is not going to ease his grip on party politics even if he were to head a ministry or be ensconced in the PMO if the National Democratic Alliance government comes to power.

21. Modi was incommunicado when he was 17 and 18. He left his family and went to Rajkot's Ramakrishna mission and to the Belur Math in West Bengal and then to the Himalayas. He wanted to do something, but did not know what. So he travelled and wandered around India.

24. Modi meets local Gujarati Muslims frequently. But the easy access given to them is among Gandhinagar's well-kept secrets.

25. He is a hard task-master and treats government officers as tools to achieve his political goals.

26. There is no doubt that he played communal politics in the last three Gujarat elections. But his close associates say, in a weak defence, that his negative side is not dominated by his penchant for identity politics.

28. No one should have any doubt that if at all he fulfills his dream of becoming prime minister he will turn New Delhi topsy-turvy. He will make bureaucrats work and will be a dictator who will ensure the implementation of his decisions.

Former Israeli PM Olmert sentenced to 6 years for corruption

(Reuters) - Israel's ex-prime minister Ehud Olmert was sentenced to six years in jail on Tuesday for taking bribes in a real estate deal, a crime the judge said was akin to treason.

The first criminal conviction of a former Israeli head of government all but ended speculation that Olmert - a centrist credited internationally with working towards a peace settlement with the Palestinians - might return to political life.

He had denied any wrongdoing in the property deal, approved when he served as Jerusalem's mayor, that led to the construction of the hilltop Holyland apartment towers, a hulking stone complex widely seen as one of the city's worst eyesores.

"A public servant who takes bribes is akin to a traitor," said Judge David Rozen in the Tel Aviv District Court.

Rozen found Olmert guilty on March 31 of two bribery charges, saying the former prime minister had accepted 500,000 shekels ($144,000) from developers of the Holyland project and 60,000 shekels in a separate real estate deal.

Olmert, the judge said, devoted most of his time to "praise-worthy" public service - but "also lined his own pockets".

"The accused served as the prime minister of Israel. From this high and honorable post, he reached the position of having been convicted of the most despicable and grave crimes," Rozen said.

Posting this here so that people who were often talking about corrupt congress being lesser evil and all....need to read this and see how strongly other governments in the world react to corruption....they akin to as bad as treason ...and the amount which it is mere peanuts to what this ex-prime minister was sentenced for in comprassion to our leaders.....$1,44,000 is nothing for our ministers....even a low profile ministers get away with much larger amount than this.

Yes i did read about it when his name was coming up some time back.

What i still dont get it...what business congress had appointing his as next army chief.

.worse part is he will serve 30 months as general.

This is a big big ploy Congress to coverup their sh*t.

I think Modi should simply dismiss him along with all the governors of the states.

Army chief is usually the one who has learnt to play politics so well he is no longer a soldier of honour.

VK Singh's DOB controversy and the money looted by Deepak Kapoor, these guys do not deserve the title of COAS.

Why did the court give Ehud Olmert such a harsh sentence?

Judge Rozen never viewed the former PM as deserving special treatment, always referring to him as "defendant number eight"; the judge said that the betrayal of the public is greatest with the "minister of ministers."

Disagree.

VK singh was a highly decorated officer, he was dragged into controversies, not that he chose to.

Age issue, rumour about batallion movement to Delhi, Major breaking into his office to spy on him, his security cover taken off when he joined IAC movement.

All these were forced on him by eunuch government in the center and assholes in MoD.

Outgoing chief is a pet and Suhag is for coverup and winning Jaat votes in Haryana which is due for assembly elections this year.

General V K Singh and General Dalbir Singh have a history. As the outgoing Army Chief in the last week of May 2012, General V K Singh had imposed a disciplinary ban on General Dalbir Singh for having ignored a serious breach of standard operating procedures by an intelligence unit under him in the Dimapur-based 3 Corps.

That ban meant General Dalbir Singh would have become ineligible to be an Army Commander, a prerequisite to become Army Chief.

General Bikram Singh, General V K Singh's successor, however, lifted the ban the moment he took over on June 1, 2012. General Dalbir Singh was promptly elevated to become the Eastern Army Commander and then brought to Delhi as Vice-Chief in January this year.

Plot thickens.
