This War of Mine

only MS charged for patching games. there was a huge thread about it long back here (fez related) and there were actually some people who defended that sh*t. ironically those guys are either MIA from the gaming threads or became quasi PC gamers only to crawl from their holes every now and then.

I did not know it was a MicroSoft only policy.

Licensing on developer kits is still there as is the publisher cut that they have to pay unless SONY has been magnanimous to waive that as well.

Either way, find a better reason to hate on me apart from the fact that I am a PC gamer or that we have more indie developers working this side of the fence.

That's the bait he uses for trapping AnK. :P

Have better things than that on my bucket list.

lolwut?! that part wasnt even directed towards you, dunno why you think it was.

either way the jokers know who they are, just wait for the MS e3 thread or some bad sony related news to see them come back in full force ;)

It felt that way Sir.

No harm meant, if that was unintentional.

War doesn't end when the last shot has been fired. It stays in people's minds long after that. Some wounds don't heal.

This War of Mine - coming Nov 14th 2014.

KEY FEATURES:
  • Face the reality: all ingame events have been inspired by real life
  • Take care of a group of civilians put together by chance, making the best use of their talents and recognizing their weaknesses
  • Make tough choices and suffer the consequences: when everyone is sick, how far will you go to get the meds? and who will get them first - the weakest or those who care for them?
  • Manage your shelter: fix it up with improvised beds and stoves, guard it against intruders, venture outside at night to look for anything that might help you survive
  • Try again, if you have the grit to tough it out - every time the experience will be different

You actually go out during night and scavenge for stuff. Lots of places for scavenging. :D

(you also get robbed when you don't put someone on guard during night).

Game also has trading. A dude shows up at door and deals. Pretty hard to bargain.

Smooth music. Fits the theme quite well.

Really good so far.

Oh god, this game is depressing. The atmosphere and slow music makes you feel like it's real. I just killed 2 elderly people and raided their house for supplies. Felt very wrong after that.

My character went into depressed & broken state after returning. He just sat on floor and cried entire day and the next... lnkbxt0.gif

On top of that, I was robbed same night. Fυck!

Done with the game. A different approach on war. Quite good & refreshing to play. The main theme is to survive, but it's nicely done.

However, there are couple issues which makes the game less fun & more frustrating in long run.

  • Unbalanced and unrealistic crafting requirements. With only one scavenger/night (and 12 inventory space with 1-2 pre-occupied for yourself), it's just too frustrating to survive. Even for a tiny little thing it requires lot of crafting materials.
  • Very random/broken combat. 3 shots from pistol does less damage compared to one strike with a knife. One hit and you are almost dead (99% hp down). Stealth approach doesn't (seem to) work every time. Once I tried to stab a guy in the back, but after the animation, he quickly turned and killed me instantly. ZnCgkfO.gif
  • Cannot fast forward. You have to wait 10-15 minutes everyday. It's good when you have something to do. But when all your characters are tired or wounded and want to take rest, you have to stare at the screen for 10-15 minutes before it becomes night.
  • No replay value. Same set of map/areas with different characters. Also, when you die at day 15+, you might feel let down/bored to start from first. BWQDWri.gif

Overall: very decent game and worth $10 bucks.

I made it till day 22 before all my characters got severely wounded and passed away. No way continue from day 22. Have to start from day 1. Ain't got time for that now.
