Souls series is not at all punishing as the community makes it out to be.

You lose your souls when you die and start from previous bonafire. Don't you lose all your xp in RPGs when you die and start from previous checkpoint?? I'm not sure why this became punishing mechanic when it comes to this game. Here you even get a chance to reclaim your souls by touching the bloodstain where you die. Perhaps recent RPGs(like skyrim) have save option in menu all the time. but almost all older rpgs and jrpg have checkpoint systems. If you die in between checkpoints you lose all xp gained from previous checkpoint and start from that checkpoint.

Just ply the game if you feel its interesting, you die a few times in the beginning learning game mechanics. Thats actually pretty common for all RPGs, because all RPGs have different mechanics it takes time to adjust to the game unlike shooters.

Yup I agree. Souls series is not as punishing, especially when compares to old hardass nes games. The games are very challenging and reward your skill and patience. I loved the gameplay, but the graphics and lore was not of my type. This one looks very interesting with all cow boy-vampire-monsters thing going on, and game looks superb.

No need to break your heads, you can still play the games.

Even though the games doesn't have good graphics and textures, they were designed cleverly to hide the fact. You only feel that souls games doesn't look good when you see screenshots or videos, but when you play you definitely won't mind. They are still best looking fantasy games even with mediocre graphics.. Just like Zelda games, who wouldn't agree that Zelda OoT looks better than even W3 :P

And the online is always alive thanks to the fans.
