younggamer
India has long been ignored by the major players in the gaming laptop industry due in large part to a negligible market. However, companies like Lenovo and Asus have recently introduced one or two models to cater to this rapidly growing segment. A large segment of consumers require the portability of a laptop without compromising on performance. Compared to the legions of laptops available in the 30-40k segment, there are barely any options in the 70-100k segment for a truly capable gaming notebook. The high-end Ultrabooks come with paltry integrated graphics while Alienware laptops command a steep premium for comparatively mediocre performance. As a prospective buyer looking to make a buy in the next 2-3 months with a budget of around 80k give or take 10%, I have very few options and humbly request assistance in choosing between them. 1)Lenovo Y510p This comes with a 15.6" FHD screen, 4th Gen i7 processor, 8GB DDR3 RAM and a 2GB GT 755M. Internationally, Lenovo offers an SLI variant but sadly, it has not been launched in India. It also comes with a backlit keyboard and JBL speakers and is available for around 77k. If anyone has a way of getting SLI working on this laptop via the Ultrabay port please let me know. 2)Asus ROG g56jr It has almost identical specs to the Lenovo except the GPU is a GTX 760M and the display is glare-free. This is available for around 79k. 3)Waiting for better options I have heard that Lenovo plans to launch the Y50 soon in the same price range and also MSI may enter the Indian market in the near future. These products are likely to come with a GTX 860M which would provide a much better gaming experience. Also they might drive down the prices of the earlier models if priced competitively. So, I would greatly appreciate some help in deciding between these options and whether refreshed models are indeed about to be launched soon and in which price range??? ALPHA17
I will go with the ASUS one if you can run the gauntlet of their after sales support which is rather patchy on occasion. If the need is not pressing, wait for two months, see if anything new comes up in the market, ideally laptops with the newer refreshed Intel Haswell processors. Cannot comment on better graphics chipsets making their way though. Also most low end and mid-range mobility GPU's tend to be re-named / re-badge versions of older hardware so just research on notebookcheck.com before committing to a model. I would caution you to avoid SLi on laptops because it makes the standby time almost negligible. Apart from this i think you understand your predicament better than me, hope this helps. Cheerio! P.S. -- Welcome to the forums, have a pleasant stay. Sent from my ST27i
younggamer
Thanks for the prompt advice. I think i'll keep an eye out for any new developments on this matter and if not then i'll get the Asus. The difference between 860m and 760m could mean the difference between playable and non-playable frame rates at 1080p ultra settings. If anyone has heard of any upcoming new launches please do help me out.
ALPHA17
^ You won't be able to go for ULTRA settings, not on mid-range laptop chipsets at-least.
