During Bioware’s “Charting a Course: Developing the Next Mass Effect” panel at Comic-Con, it was announced that the fan-favorite “Mako” vehicle will make its return to Mass Effect 4. No word on if it will differ from past games, but its visual aesthetic certainly seems sleeker.

Check out the first glimpses of the redesigned vehicle below and head over here to check out all of the new Mass Effect information released at today’s panel.

During Bioware’s “Charting a Course: Developing the Next Mass Effect” panel at Comic-Con, it was revealed that the next Mass Effect will not be called “Mass Effect 4.” When the game was refereed to as such, producer Mike Gamble barked “It’s not called Mass Effect 4, damn it!”

It is currently unknown what the title of the game will be.

From GAF

-The Mako is back, they showed video of it, and there are images of it below. It's apparently quite fast now.

-"Building a game about exploring places, so you need a vehicle for that "

-"We learned some things about vehicle frustration"

-They showed off armor renders, viewable below

-"Sounds like the timeline of #MassEffect will be during Shepard's lifetime but won't involve Shepard...hard to tell @GambleMike being cagey!" [Note: Two other tweeters said it sounds like it takes place in another galaxy, though that's not necessarily mutually exclusive with this.]

-"Team reiterates that it is not Shepard's story and that this story one is brand new."

-"no timeline was announced at the panel. Some hints were made but I have to re-listen to the audio."

-"You will see a bit of old with the new (old characters MAY appear) "

-"Competition is critical but cooperation is bigger for us" @GambleMike speaking on multiplayer in #MassEffect / "cooperative MP is bigger for us (than competitive)"

-"Spiritual successor" vibe for the next

-"It's ingrained in us to give players as much choice as possible" - @GambleMike #MassEffect

-"The animation team is now doing stuff we couldn't even dream about before" speaking on Frostbite 3 for #MassEffect

-"it's not called ME 4 damn it! " [i'm going to keep calling it that until they give it a name.]

-No announcements on player race choice of composers when asked

-The internet kept dying for the people livetweeting so there are more details that aren't here

-"I got video of the new #MassEffect Mako in action"

-"Seems strongly implied that new Mass Effect will be set in totally different galaxy, but will contain familiar elements. #SDCC"

-"Not playing as Shepherd, and Shepherd is not important to story - new uncharted areas. #SDCC"

-"Mako is back in Mass Effect! More agile, no cannon. #SDCC"

-"New Mass Effect is focused on exploration of planets, Mako is meant to be fast travel on them. #SDCC"

-[Note]: Nerd Appropriate (one of the original tweeters) also said it sounded like another galaxy but they need to double check their audio recording.

Anybody else thinks parts in bold are very bad ideas?? Do not want an alternative timeline, would be a poor move to ditch the MW so soon

Why would that be bad?

Well with the first bold, the story and events will eventually be bound with the events of the trilogy, and looking at the N7 armors you'll just be someone who'd be doing your bit but ultimately you'll be in the shadow of Shepard, not to mention someone who went rather unnoticed unless its a famous returning side character from the trilogy (hmm :scratchchin:).. Nothing you'll do will have an impact as the RGB will still happen.. The case is same with a prequel hence I didn't wanted these two option anywhere near the next ME.

Also did I mention that reapers will still be roaming the galaxy and I'm bloody sick of them now?

As for the second bold, having a different galaxy means putting away all the lore and the universe which they have established so far unless that galaxy will have most of the MW species along with some new ones(dunno how they'll explain that) And like I said, from ME1-3 we only explore 1% of MW, there's still so much can be done with it. What about those dormant mass relays for example?

But I can understand why they might go with this approach since they had written themselves to a corner with ME3 and cannot come up with anything to justify events of a sequel. Don't like it though but still see how they handle it.

But have they confirmed it's going to be some grand-scale epic space opera like the trilogy was?

Honestly, I wouldn't mind if it was a more close-knit personal story, like a revenge story. You're chasing someone and it's taking you to different worlds and stuff. (Think Red Dead Redemption, but across different worlds.)

It allows them to pretty much ignore the grand scale things of what's happening with Shepard, and I wouldn't mind that. It gives them the freedom to make the story how they want without worrying too much about tying it in too much with Shepards stuff, which would be a huge technical issue, considering all the different choices people took, while also letting us meet different characters and explore.

Knowing BIOWARE and EA, do not be surprised if it what you suspect it of being.

No but I wasn't referring to it as one anyhow. Just mentioned the baggage is all.

I wouldn't mind that too, infact I'm firmly in the camp of 'no apocalyptic Cthulhu-esque enemies' but don't think I'd want (or rather its impossible to think of) it in Shepard's timeline. The story, choices and their consequences everything would be so restricted, it wouldn't really go anywhere.

At this moment I think it'll happen when the Lazarus project was underway.

IMO it'd been better had they bit the bullet and canonize Destroy & then go on from there, something like 60-70 years after that. The same premise and approach (of no godly enemies) can still be carried out but that's just me.

Yeah I was pretty much gonna write all of that. It really sucks if its in the same timeline.

They should make protanogist some small time smugglers taking small jobs on his oldschool space ship (AKA Firefly). Then during some rouine mission let him come across some secret cargo and then just let him be the right guy in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Full write up on all things discussed in the SDCC panel

“We’re also working on an under-armor system where these pieces themselves [the exterior armor pieces] don’t have to be on the player at all times… Maximum customization and visual aesthetic.” – Mike Gamble

“The character art team is putting a lot of effort into making those hardwares [the armor set] as realistic as possible, in a sense that they could actually be built.” – Carl Boulay

“The Mako is meant to be a fast response, point to point vehicle at this point. It’s something you can tear around planets in really quickly and get to where you need to go without a whole lot of fuss. We’re kind of working on the tweaks and the physics, the important part is that the Mako is going to be fundamental to the game. We’re building a game that’s about exploring places, and obviously [if you're] exploring places [you're going to need] a really handy vehicle. There is no cannon on it” – Mike Gamble

Is the protagonist strictly human, or can we play as a Turian? “So that is a big one, we haven’t locked down the specifics of that one yet. For sure your main character will be human but in terms of other playable races… we can’t talk about that at this point.” -Mike Gamble
