Casey Hudson leaves Bioware

Casey Hudson's long career at BioWare took him from a technical artist on Neverwinter Nights and MDK2to the head of the Mass Effect franchise. Now, after 16 years, he's decided to call it quits, saying that it's time for "a much-needed break."

Hudson's credits at BioWare also include Baldur's Gate II and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, but his greatest impact undoubtedly came by way of the sci-fi RPG epic Mass Effect, on which he served as the project director from the beginning to the end. But in a letter posted in full on the BioWare Blog, he said it's time to move on.

"This is without a doubt the most difficult decision of my career," Hudson wrote. "BioWare is as magical a place today as it was when I started. The projects we are working on are some of the most exciting and prestigious in the world. The talent in our teams is second to none. And the people here are some of my closest friends. I’ve spent more time with many of you than my own family, and I have enjoyed every day of it."

Next Mass Effect game to be penned by Halo 4's lead writer.

BioWare has announced some of the team leads for its upcoming Mass Effect title, including Chris Schlerf, the lead writer on the project. Shlerf's last project was a little game called Halo 4.
Schlerf has had to keep his involvement in the project secret since joining the team in November 2013. "Every day is a revelation and every day I get to play in a new corner of the universe," he wrote in the official announcement. "To be able to look three steps ahead to, ‘Where does this take us and how does it add to the way we look at the Mass Effect trilogy?’ You couldn’t ask for a better playground."
Not much is known about the upcoming Mass Effect title, but we can now look into the history of the men leading the development teams for some hints about what we may or may not see.
Halo 4 featured a more human, interesting story than past games in the series, which is quite the trick when you're writing for a faceless soldier and an AI construct. The new Mass Effect game seems to be in good hands.
"As a writer, I write for characters," Schlerf said. "To me, it’s always about what makes my characters tick and what stories I can tell through those characters that will actually engage people about their own lives. It provides a mirror to that player’s experience [so that they are] not just sitting back in an armchair."

Mass Effect 4 is Massive In Size/Scale As Compared To DA: Inquisition, 200 Devs Working On It, Coming In 2016

According to Shinobi602, Mass Effect 4 development team staff members have skyrocketed to around "200", this massive increase came after the launch of Dragon Age: Inquisition (before DAI launch, the staff members working on ME4 was around 50 or so).

About the release date of Mass Effect 4, Shinobi602 said: he is confident that Mass Effect 4 will arrive at some point in 2016, but the date is not yet said internally.

Dragon Age: Inquisition was one of the biggest (in terms of scale and things players can do in the game) title on PS4/Xbox One. Earlier, Shinobi602 stated that Mass Effect 4 is more massive than DA: Inquisition, when asked: in what terms he is talking about? Shinobi602 replied:

Massive' in terms of size/scale, that's all. Yea 'optimistic' but not unlikely or anything, it could very well be ready by Q2 2016, the date's still not set even internally. There were about 50 or so devs on the game around when DAI shipped, that's since quadrupled in number. That new build Gamble was talking about was a big milestone related to that. Doubling down on one single engine (Frostbite) across all the studios is a huge advantage. '

Late 2015/very early 2016 was my own line of thought before I talked to certain people. They're making it the best game it can be, it'll be worth the wait.

It's 100% coming next year."

dont know how to feel about this, but i would much rather have smaller and concentrated areas with rich and worthy content than ,useless square miles with generic quests ,dragon age inquisition really wasnt what i was expecting from bioware.

I don't think they will make a continuous open world, nor they would add fetch quests. Its still going to be divided into several areas on different planets, which you can access from spaceship/or something else. When they said its going to be huge, I think they meant the areas you do missions are going to be huge. Something like UC4. And probably central hubs like citidal are going to be huge too.
