Cant wait for my second 8800GT to arrive to complete my SLI setup. Crysis chugs at 1024x768 at Very High on my Vista installation, though its silky smooth at 720p and the hacked Very High setting on my Win Xp installation. The second card should hopefully cure my Vista ails.

SPORE

I played around with the Spore Creature Creator a bit - it's AWESOME. It's a whole lot of fun. I would love to see this on the DS - that's where it would shine.

This is my first creation - called Ugly Bugly.

But its still waaaaaay off the GTX series.

Yeah according to AMD's slides the 4850 is to compete with 9800GTX and the 4870 is set to perform at the gap between the 9800GTX & GTX series (maybe even compete with GTX260). The 4870x2 should be interesting if they can deliver drivers that scale well.

^^ I doubt the x2s will do well. Although AMD's dual GPU architecture is better than nVidia's implementation, they just dont have the "oomph" to complete with nVidia's monsters. Pretty sad to see that they still havent managed to catch up with them.

Really?..

The 4870X2 should be a monster. It should wipe the floor with the GTX280.

The 4850 is almost as good as the GTX260, and for much cheaper, lesser than half the price, 200$ vs. 450$....

The 4870 should be almost as good as the GTX280, again for lesser than half the price, 300$ vs. 650$....

The 4870X2 should release at 450$, and then the 4870 will drop to 220$ or so, the 4870X2 will be a total monster, specially since ATi has come up with the new bridge chip.

^^ I'm willing to bet that by the time the 4870x2 is actually available in the mass market, the 280GTX will be priced substantially lower and an x2 version of the chip will be out. nVidia know the enthusiast market better than anyone else and have timed the release of the 200 series keeping the potential performance of the 48xx series in mind. I'm also willing to bet my collection of hats that nVidia has a DX 10.1 core in the works and will release it in the next 6 months, i.e. by the time AMD get around to making the 48xx more widely available.

Im guessing you dont know that it costs alomost 400$ for nVidia to manufacture the GTX280.

The price will not drop below 500$.

Also, forget about the cost, their Yields are SO SO SO SO bad due to the huge die size of the GTX280 core.

Really?... You mean drop the price to 250$.. Fat chance... Lol...
