ATI will not be able to catch up i have some info which i cant reveal which will put 280 as the top of of all cards and people will upgrade to it like they did when 8800GT came out.

wait and watch :)

Really? I'm by no means an enthusiast, the GTX 260 896MB is actually looking like a much better buy than the GTX 280. Apparently, the performance hit is 10-15%, and it's 350$, compared to the astronomic price of the GTX 280 @ 650$.

The 9800GX2 is on par with the GTX 280 and it costs 450$. HD 4850 and 9800GTX are incredbile performers at 200$. GTX 260 is 350$ and HD 4870 with 512MB GDDR5 at a screaming memory clock of 3.5+ ghz is 299$. Apparently there's a 1GB GDDR5 version coming out too, @ around 350-375$ (I think).

And don't forget the 55nm version of the 9800GTX called 9800GTX+ @ 229$.

~ 9800GTX/GTX+

~ 9800GTX/GTX+ SLI

~ HD 48x0 CrossFire

~ 9800GX2 Dual Chip

~ GTX 260 896MB

^All seem better buys compared to the GTX 280. At the moment atleast. Unless nVidia somehow massively increases performance just through driver updates (I'm not too well informed, is this even possible?), or reduces the price considerably, those cards I mentioned seem better to purchase.

As for upgrading to it like when the 8800GT came out...I don't know about that to be honest. There's more than a billion transistors on the GTX280, and since it's pretty high end technology and VERY new, I don't know how nVidia can afford to make it as temptingly priced as the 8800GT was when it came out.

^ NV will definitely come out with a 55nm (or lower) GT200 chip but I don't see them dropping GTX280 prices below $500 unless AMD has something better (price/performance wise) up its sleeve.

The driver update will improve performance slightly (even if you factor in Physx) but GTX 280's biggest stumbling block will still be its price.

^^ decent idea rishi....with DDR3 on the horizon and prices will only fall from here wait is the right approach....you can later do a good upgrade.

Was planning to o/c the BE to hell and back. But IF intel's pricing gets better, which C2D would you guys suggest (bang for buck and o/c value)?

The Q6600 would be your best bet. Good pricing, quad core and OC's like a bat out of hell.
