Haha huge update arrives right after I think "we're never hearing from Hello Games again, are we?" and finally uninstall the game.

Anyway, reinstalled it (only 2.7 gb so what the heck) and tried some of the base building stuff. It's pretty much a carbon copy of Subnautica. Not complaining though since Subnautica has awesome base building and it works pretty well here. However now I can't figure out how to craft glass, base looks pretty crappy without windows! I'm liking the QoL changes like being able to recharge stuff without going into the inventory screens, scanning planets from space etc. I really think there's still potential to turn the game around if they keep pushing out updates like these every few months. I still need try the freighters but I don't think I have enough money for that. The game is still missing that "hook", finding cool places to see will only keep you playing for so long.

Also tried the Survival mode and it's broken as hell. It's impossible to even make it to your ship as everything is turned up to 11 and there are barely any resources around. I don't think they even tested it before putting it out there. I think it's a decent idea to ramp up the standard difficulty and put the focus on survival but it's utterly unplayable right now and not fun at all.

The new AA method has improved visuals significantly and has finally gotten rid of the annoying jaggies everywhere, especially in space stations. Planet generation also seems to have slightly improved, noticed some variations in the terrain (more plains, more hills etc). Could have been a placebo effect though. Hadn't touched the game after the 25 or so hours I put in during launch.

Good to know. The new update seems good. Going to start a new game in base building mode. I read an article on some site which said the tech used by devs is amazing and with proper tuning and coding they can achieve amazing results. Hopefully nms devs can achieve it.

Yeah, I remember reading this. One of the few pros about the game was that lot of people were impressed with the tech used.
