Prices of console games still high after so many years

Recommended Posts

I bought my first ps3 a year back and my ps4 this june, i just hope that ps4 remain un-hackable , would push a lot of people towards getting the official version of the games, might make publishers rethink their pricing strategy. At the moment, I cant blame them for the sky high prices, because of the amount of cracked ps3's in the market. When I was selling off my ps3, every tom dick n harry wanted to know if it was cracked/ could be cracked.

Honestly, the thing I like most about consoles is MP, the social aspect of it.

All that will happen is ps4 will die here, the first 3k-4k console took a month and half to sell out, the next lot is readily available.

Piracy has got a very small impact on pricing in my opinion. The very fact that some people were not willing to buy the ps3 unless it was hacked proves that they would not buy the games no matter what the cost. Look at pc. The prices were always lower but piracy still existed.

maybe when the price drops to the 30k range, but as you said correctly, ps4 is seen as an expensive toy. Nothing much can be done apart from a dramatic restructuring of the import/customs policy by the govt, which obviously they do not have time for. Wish we had a little less economic disparity, would have forced the govt to rethink pricing, but that would just be be wishful thinking, something that will never materialize.

and, @athek , do they have ads/advets for ps4 here in India ?

No ads/adverts.

And as for govt they have many more important and pressing issues to attend then to restructure something who only rich and above middle class people wanna buy. Can't blame them too.

I feel that piracy makes the publishers feel like there is no need to drop prices. So that they can get premium prices for the limited stock that they will sell. The issue with the people I mentioned is that they are not familiar with the entertainment that an official console can provide over a hacked version. As far as their thinking goes, connecting a few extra controllers = mp. That is just my opinion though.

yes, sadly import/customes rules are/and should be at the bottom of the pile, too much going on these days that requires more attention.

The people you mentioned will never buy a game..Even if its 250 they'll say i can download it for free..

or buy a pirated copy for 100 rs...

True that. A friend of mine plays cracked csgo on russian servers. The game went on sale for $3.75 = ₹225 and he was still reluctant to buy it. (even though he likes the games and I told he can play on ~5-10 Indian servers and many other low ping servers from Asia and can also play official match making). I even explained how he can get drops and earn his money back and he still just replied back with "If I can get it for free, why should I pay for it?".

This mentality needs to change, until then the gaming scenario can't progress in India.

One more problem is that most of the Indian 'Debit cards' don't work on international sites like steam/gmg/gog etc. Even if many of my friends do want to buy games, they are helpless. I personally used to buy them games for bank transfer but everyone just got tired of it now..

Agreed.

Majority of people I work with laugh at me for buying official games. Sometimes I try to explain why but mostly it's kind of pointless. You cannot change people's mind unless they themselves are passionate about gaming. We don't buy the games because its legal or sh*t. I like to think that we buy games to show our support for the developers. It's hard to get people to understand that. :(

A lot of people who play games will stop entirely if they have to pay, just because we are passionate does not mean everyone else. They are doing it just cos they have the option, if the option ceases, they will just move on to something else.

What I don't get is why suddenly there's a parity between digital and physical versions? Its not like digital is making any significant dent in retail in India given the size of games and shitty internet. PS3 games held on to it 2.5k mark even though retail was going 3k and up, but they've fked it up again on PS4. What's the excuse, online customs? They're charging 3.5k for disk version of Temple of Osiris, I'm going to laugh my a*s off if they charge same amount on PSN.

Yeah that's one thing I will never understand. I always thought going digital would be cheaper in comparison because of savings on packing, printing, disc pressing, distribution and stuff. Or are we just being shafted.

say what ? :fear:

But honestly; the digital pricing is a huge turn off....I see no reason why to pay so much for Destiny if i wanted to buy it off PSN :/
