Hellblade has just been announced to the world at the PlayStation Gamescom Press Conference in Cologne, Germany with the debut showing of the Hellblade teaser trailer:

Quote

Ninja Theory is defined by three things: ninja-class melee gameplay, strong character stories and a unique art vision.

On Hellblade, we will double down on what we do best to give you a deeper character in a twisted world with brutal, uncompromising, combat.

We are embracing the creative spirit that comes with independence without letting go of the stunning production values that we are known for. It’s not indie, it’s not AAA. This is a third way. It’s independent AAA.

It’s about making a more focused game experience that isn’t trying to be all things to all people but satisfies a particular gaming itch. It’s about being in command of our creativity so that we can give you what you want from us at a lower price.

It’s very early days in the project but we are opening our doors and inviting you to join us every step of the way. We want to show you how we make this game warts and all so that you can be part of this journey.

Release date: TBA

Platform: First on PlayStation 4

More details soon.

Excellent art direction, as expected from NT. Heavenly Sword still holds up incredibly well - both graphics and gameplay.

Good to see them still hanging in there. Great little studio.

Ninja Theory Explains Why Hellblade Is First to Consoles on PS4; More Games in Development at the Studio

Ninja Theory surprised many at Gamescom by announcing that their new IP Hellblade will be first to consoles on PlayStation 4, as mist expected a multiplatform release.

Today I had a very interesting chat with Product Development “Ninja” Dominic Matthews about the new game, and he explained the reason behind the choice.

Matthews mentioned that the team working on the game is quite small, made of only twelve people under the creative direction of Tameem Antoniades.

That means that the team needed to be considerate in its approach to development and focus its efforts on a single console.

While the definition “First to console on PS4″ might lead some to think that other versions are already in the plans, Matthews also explained that at the moment the team is thinking only about working on the PS4 version.

The notion that only twelve between the developers at Ninja Theory are working on Hellblade led me to ask whether the studio is also working on something else, and Matthews confirmed that there are indeed other titles in the pipeline, even if those are being worked on for actual publishers.

While I couldn’t extort an answer on the nature of those titles, at the very least we know that they’re being developed, so if you want a sequel to one of Ninja Theory’s beloved games, you can still hold some hope.

Ninja Theory: Hellblade Has Nothing to Do With Heavenly Sword

http://www.playstationlifestyle.net/2014/08/18/hellblade-ps4-not-heavenly-sword-2/

Absolutely. We have:

1. repurposed a character from Heavenly Sword

2. mixed an antonym and synonym for Heavenly Sword to come up with the name for this new game

3. implemented an evolution of the same hack and slash gameplay from Heavenly Sword

but it has absolutely nothing to do with Heavenly Sword.
