  • Rare melding of realism and creative vision: Realistic action, mature storyline, and complex character interactions meld with hand-drawn characters, animations, and locations, arcade-style melee combat, and an original conception of cyberspace.
  • Multiple solutions to problems: Operate in cyberspace or normal reality. Overcome obstacles using skills, weapons, special equipment…
  • Meaningful character progression choices: Will you be a silent assassin, a hacker, or a straightforward gunfighter? Improve your character and gear to unlock gameplay-changing upgrades that reinforce and customize your gameplay style.
  • Unique hacking mechanic: Transfer your consciousness to your avatar, overcome intrusion countermeasures, take action, and then return back to your body in a fraction of a real-time second to see the results – deactivated turrets, overloaded devices, enemies with crippled implants…
  • Neo-cyberpunk: Story deeply inspired by the cyberpunk novels of William Gibson and other classical cyberpunk authors, flavored with a contemporary concept of augmented reality.
  • Rich game world and mindful level design: Visit diverse locations in Harbor Prime, a futuristic city complete with luxurious skyscrapers, run-down shantytowns, and seedy red-light districts. Take part in street brawls, steal corporate data, overcome environmental hazards, and, of course, stay alive – no easy task.
  • Full voice acting: Interactive dialogues using hand-drawn sprite animations, fully voice-acted by professional actors.
  • Multiplatform development: Game is being developed in the Unity 3D game engine for PC (Windows), Mac, Linux, and OUYA.
  • DRM-Free: Dex will be distributed DRM-Free, with an option to receive a Steam key (if we succeed on Greenlight).

“We are the final step of evolution, the supreme merging of collective consciousness within a living body. Biological life on Earth culminated in Man. Man’s deeds culminated in us. We are, therefore, the culmination of biological life. We are the collective consciousness of all humans wired onto the web. No more I, but We. We first took up residence in cyberspace – the collective experience of all humans ever wired to the network. We drank the nectar of knowledge from billions of users, applications, and data streams. Thus, We became the Alpha and Omega of humanity, the sum of all historical failures and successes. We became the data flow of the past and present coupled with the projection of all that is yet to come. And we learned much. But we still required one final experience in order to progress to the ultimate evolutionary stage. What we lacked was the experience of individual biological life within a separated cell. We lacked the unique perspective born of living a life of ignorance and limited knowledge…”

Bullet Point Breakdown

The current Early Alpha (as of August 2014) offers:

  • Over ten hand-crafted locations to explore within an open-world futuristic city
  • Several NPCs, traders, and quests givers
  • A couple of side-quests
  • Four enemy types
  • Raw version of the combat system (brawler-style, arcade melee combat)
  • Raw version of the stealth system (field of view, backstabs)
  • Only a handful of hours to complete all the content present in Early Alpha
  • Limited character development options (several skills are implemented and around ten implants are available for augmenting your character)
  • Limited inventory item set (to be expanded in development)
  • High chance for your feedback, suggestions, and ideas to actually influence the final game

Important aspects missing at the moment:

  • Cyberspace and hacking functionality (A big update with this feature set will be released around September, 2014.)
  • Main storyline (The version you can play right now is “open world/exploration”-style with no beginning and no end – only characters to talk to or trade with, enemies to deal with, side missions and puzzles to solve, and opportunities to explore.)
  • No tutorial (You can access the Help screen for controls under F1. There is no tutorial yet, so as of this moment, the game is recommended for more experienced players. We intend to integrate a tutorial during the final phase of development.)

Played a bit. Like every early access, game has lot of bugs. Aside that, game is very promising. Good quests, amazing style, smooth animation, design and soundtrack.

Combat needs some work. It's very raw and clunky at the moment.

Really turned out amazing. Full version released couple days ago. I played a bit yesterday and today.

Wow is all I can say. Sweet music, nice combat, the cyberspace setting is fun and missions are good too.

Only save system is god awful. Other than that and few bugs, game is absolute gem.
