Mafia II

Totally, it was so much fun being a driver going from point A to point B, driving people around, coming back home to sleep, answering phone in undies in the morning and doing it all over again. True mafioso :clapping:

WTF is this post doing in 'Mafia II' thread ?

@ Neo : The game was much MUCH more than driving from point A to point B and picking up phone calls to begin every mission. I do agree that the concept to start the mission was nothing innovative but the missions are what really mattered. That mission where we had to steal papers and stealthily get out of the area was simply awesome and so were the final few missions. Oh and if you are so bothered about these little things then what do you have to say about GTA IV where Niko who is such a tough and no nonsense guy goes roaming around the cities ... finds pigeons and then shoots them.

Now I have nothing against GTA but i'm just pointing out that it's not these little things which matter. Mafia II was a simply awesome game with a great story and you have to appreciate that. All Mafia games are MEANT to be this way and if you don't like it, then this game is not for you.

One thing I didn't understand was why did they decide to keep Vitto as a mere underling through out the game? Tommy in the original Mafia progressed through the ranks quite a lot but Vitto seemed to have been stuck in a rut. And he seemed happy and content about it. Was it because Vitto had a criminal background from the very begining while Tommy was an honest guy?

Does any one remember if Tommy was Italian as well?

The timeline for Mafia II is shorter than that of Mafia I IIRC. Plus, with the gang getting busted, there was no scope for upward mobility, was there :P

Its a Dumb ,Dumber & Dumbest kinda situation here. I guess you were playing GTA when god was distributing common sense to everyone else.

Mafia series is not a full fledged open world game , its a story driven game , the house (Mafia 2) , Salieri's Bar (Mafia 1) acts as a hub starting point to every chapter or part of the story , once a sequence is complete u are supposed to be back to the same point for the game to save and progress to the next part.

Driving around from point A to B is a integral part of the series , this is where many of the interactions & story progression also take place between the characters. There were Taxi missions in start of Mafia 1 where u needed to drive passengers around the city , if this feels boring to you , I don't know what would say about that , there is a reason for every drive u take in Mafia series , its not mindless driving like in GTA , for that there is a separate mode called Free Ride & Free Ride Extreme mode which was there by default in Mafia 1 , added via Mods in Mafia 2.

What Neo is referred is what u have been doing the same thing in every past GTA game as well , u needed to be back to a safe house to save and continue progress from that point only except GTA4 where it was not mandatory as it auto saved , waking up in undergarments why is so funny to you , as it defines realism , unlike GTA4 where u sleep wearing suit & boots.

It always amuses me when people bust out the "but its realistic" advantage argument when trying to sell up a game.

Yeah the main character can take 20 bullets to his head and regenerate health by hiding behind a wall but sleeping in a suit in GTA is unrealistic.

^ That's the reason why Mafia 2 is a lot easier game compared to Mafia 1 even on hard. In Mafia 1 going face to face with a guy with a pump action shotgun was suicide , ur health from 100 would go down to 10-20 in one bullet , the reason the docks level and also the final showdown is so tough in Mafia 1

I posted that in regard to just sleeping/save part which Neo pointed out not the health mechanics , almost every shooter these days have thrown out the health pickup system of past games , Call of Duty 2 introduced it and almost everyone has pretty much copied it.

Mafia 1 > Mafia 2 in many ways there is no denying that , but the reasons posted here for bashing Mafia 2 from the very start are pure non-sense.

So the reason people disliked a game is nonsense? Do you know what the word opinion means? Or subjective?

I really dont get the defensiveness. I am sure people like the game. But there are also people who disliked the game. And its not just a troll post. They are giving actually legit reasons (according to them) why the game was not fun. What makes you think your opinion is more valid than theirs? Surely you must be able to see that to them you are just as wrong as they are to you.

@Joy: Well said dude... :clapping:

I agree that Mafia II may not appeal to every joe.. :) Because in the world of Fancy guns, roam-anywhere-do-whatever-f-you-wanna-do kinda games.... this one is more realistic compared to the other games...

No game can be hundred percent real... You cant recover from some med pack/pills/whatever and starting shooting your enemy immediately :wallbash: ... Considering that amount of acceptable un-realism in games, Mafia II is using the current trend in games....regenerative health..Imagine playing with the fear of being dead by even one bullet... :nerves: Nobody would have bought Mafia then... It would be THE TOUGHEST game then...

Realism lies in the way the story is narrated, how it makes playing the game as a journey instead of killing 'n' number of AI enemies in a best possible way with the heaviest gun available...

Again the taste in games is very subjective... Thats what categorizes the gamers...

I like story oriented games than FPS.. Those who like FPS/GTA in particular may not like the slow life of Vito..
