Mafia II

I really derive no joy from being right. If the game had been stellar and I was wrong I would have laid down my money for the PC version happily. I just call em like I see em. Nothing about this looked exceptional and 7/10 sounds about right.

I love saying I told you so as much as the next guy though. So... ahem.... I TOLD YOU SO!

Official Xbox Magazine gave the 360 version a 7/10

-Action and Car chases are a snooze fest

OXM Preview published in May

Car handling's the most immediately noticeable difference for fans of the original. Gone are the rickety autos of old, replaced with sleek mid-century motors capable of much faster speeds and a far more exciting ride. The odd ramp or two hidden around the city hammers the point home: driving in Empire Bay City's going to be fun rather than doggedly realistic.

Gunfights have had something of an overhaul too, with hugely destructible environments falling to pieces around you as they're peppered with bullets. A cover system (they are so in right now) delivers the usual hiding-behind-stuff-then-popping-up-to-fire tricks, but with that unique mobster twist: the ability to pounce to your feet from behind a bullet-riddled bar and fire a Tommy gun from the hip while screaming profanities.

We're thinking this is probably cool enough to sell the game alone.

Wonder what changed in 2 months :scratchchin:

Liar :P.

I don't think many will disagree when I say that Mafia had the worst checkpoint system and pacing ever.

I really did enjoy the difficulty level, except for that god forsaken Race mission, or may be that's just me being wuss at sim racing. Apart from that, I think a lot of missions had me re-trying countless times. Checkpoint system was OK, I didn't find anything wrong with it. The driving part was the only aspect which sucked badly. I wouldn't mind the driving bit as well, if we wouldn't have cops hauling our asses each time we crossed 40mph. How are we supposed to enjoy high speed cursing on our Roadsters, if I have to use the speed limiter on them? :(

^^ Go to the country side.

I did. But I wish they would have allowed it when we were off to do the main missions. In the last 2 chapters, I just ended up taking train rides.

UPDATE: Completed the game today morning and it was AMAZING! Now off to check the free ride challenges.

No trains in this game :(

You sure ? Is it mentioned somewhere ?

Cause elevated train tracks are there in the videos just like Mafia 1 , so can't think why won't it be present here again , the demo on 10th will clear everything up , performance , optimization , gameplay , graphics etc..

They should have it. Even GTA didn't have train rides, or did it?

GTA4 did , one of the 1st few missions in GTA4 had u to take a train ride to kill someone.

In SA u could drive the train yourself. Not sure about previous GTA games.

But could you use it as a means of transportation later on?

Absolutely , but its a boring means of transport in games. :P It awesome if u wanna do sight seeing of the city while siting back and eat or drink something.

Otherwise when u have cars , bikes & choppers etc. why would anyone wanna take a train ride. :giggle:

-- you could smell the latest brand of hair oil

-- you could read the messages of the guy standing next to you and checking his messages

-- you could hear dialouges like "pehli baar train me aaya hain kya"
