pArth
Go to Nvidia control panel and then Phsyx setting, there disable GPU acceleration. It should use the CPU now. Can i do that on ati ?
devil_angel
Can i do that on ati ? I guess so. Overall this game is very nicely optimized apart from Physx which is quite poor. Its nice to see them follow Metro 2033 ie. give the option to use Physx on CPU, which would mean the ones with ATI cards can enable it as well but the optimization itself is a generation behind Metro 2033. Joy
I tried that trick to get into locked areas of the city via taking that bus , its not working for me , every time when I get out of the bus , I get into the water and it throws me back to playable area or throws me up in the the air resulting in falling to the ground and death. nash
Dude Physx is exclusive to NVIDIA http://www.nvidia.com/object/physx_new.html
Joy
Yeah kb controls sux Cover with left ctrl feels so uncomfortable :| You can always change it u know , I switched cover to Space and Climb to Left Alt , as its only needed sometimes when u need to climb obstacles.Even Mass Effect 2 & Splinter Cell Conviction on PC has cover as Space button on keyboard , works great. Shooting is so much better with keyboard & mouse , controller is always a second option for me if given a choice.
praveer
Dude Physx is exclusive to NVIDIA http://www.nvidia.com/object/physx_new.html Uh the game can run Physx on CPU just like Metro 2033. If you don't have an nvidia card AND enable the Physx then it'll automatically run on CPU...but if you have an nvidia card but still want to use CPU then you need to disable "GPU acceleration" from Control Panel. The framerate is noticeably poor compared to the PC. Its sub 24 fps in some cases, although given the quality of visuals its cranking out, that's understandable. The draw distance is pretty impressive for a console version. There are far better examples than this game...the LOD here is very harsh, most of the far off buildings are basically no better than a silhouette. Just Cause 2,Farcry 2 and Red Dead Redemption are the correct example of insane draw distance on console along with good performance. It does have jaggies all over the place , framerate was decent , shooting is good ,cars handling is somewhere between arcade and simulation of PC , there is no option to choose car handling on PS3 demo like PC version. You need to check again, the two driving option (simulation & standard) are available on all platform. Also one more thing...the only reason why PS3 version looks more jagged is because it lacks the full screen blur of 360/PC ver. not because it lacks the (rather borked & useless) anti-aliasing found in PC/360. WhiteWolf
Abey PV..So i just have to disable physx from Nv CP..nd it will work ?...pakka ? how much cpu power it will use ?
Ethan_Hunt
My mains question is, people with SLI configurations, can they use one of their cards for PhysX? Is it necessary for people to have the PhysX card in X16 PCI-E slot?

praveer
@ Pee-ra-veer - Is it? Didn't know that. Yes it is....Mafia 2 is the 2nd only game which supports Physx on CPU (first being Metro 2033). I am myself running an ATI card & using physx. (with tweaks so that the game doesn't goes into slideshow mode) I'll make this clear again, if you own an ATI card & enable Physx ingame then it'll automatically use CPU to run the physics calculations. If you have an nvidia card & want to use the CPU instead of GPU then you need to disable "GPU acceleration" from control panel & have the physx option enabled ingame. Using CPU is definitely the better option (provided your CPU is decent) than using your single nvidia GPU to do everything. Abey PV..So i just have to disable physx from Nv CP..nd it will work ?...pakka ? how much cpu power it will use ? The code itself is massively unoptimized in this game, it doesn't properly utilizes the hardware...so it'll run like a*s no matter what you use ! This is why you need to disable some things like cloth simulation for NPCs & collisions for debries....by deleting some files.
HundredProofSam
In the control panel there's actually an option to choose between CPU and GPU for PhysX. Didn't know that. Thanks. peace
