PhysX is proprietary nVidia tech and PhysX without GPU isn't really PhysX but plain old physics :). And it only works out if the game has an alternate software based emulator coded in by the developers (still not PhysX).

While the option you see in the nVidia panel falls back to the official software PhysX calculator and works with all games that use PhysX without the need for the developer explicitly coding in a software emulator.

Can i use joypad with this game.

I guess. You could pretend to push buttons while it plays on Youtube. I mean most of Youtube is sub HD anyway so it oughta feel just like the real thing.

Its not plain old physics.

Its the exact same thing feature to feature where they allow the code to alternatively on CPU (just like Metro 2033)...it runs from the same set of files, so its obviously not an emulation. There is a reason why the Xbox 360 demo also gets a mention to physx eventhough that console has nothing nvidia in it.

Anyways imo Physx is massively overrated, its not really a good physics engine, there are better solutions which run much better.

Ofcourse it's the same thing feature to feature, PhysX isn't the definitive way to handle physics.

PhysX is just nVidia crock. One would think an 8600GT level card (that can run games like Crysis on its own) dedicated for PhysX rendering would do wonders but no, you need atleast an 8800GT level card .

What I'm saying is that its the same Physx 1:1 only running on CPU, not something different going under the hood or some emulation.

Its because nvidia makes CPU solver for Physx as well...the devs are free to choose whatever they want. :)

Random Incident (Journal entry 1):

I just went into a bar. It was completely empty except the owner. I got a weird idea and thought of pointing my gun at him just to watch his scared reaction to it. As soon as I aimed my gun at him, motherf*cker pulled out a pump action shotgun out of nowhere. I wasted him without hesitation and ran out of there. Heard a cop over CB stating there's been an homicide. I came back after few minutes and saw the Bar was sealed shut with "Crime scene" label patched across it. Amazing huh?

so cooooooll..means things u have done have some real effect in the game..well developers..have tasted all the food,,i guess eating food will replenish health ??

Everyone's not Praveer....cause they don't have the cookies. :fear:

true....can u send some coookies to all of us..we all will rep u and you will become the ultimate Pree-Ray-Eer-Cookieman..

jokes apart,,i dont know this physx on cpu thing,.if developers start using this option and optimize it well, then it will be worthy to invest in a quad core+ cpu for gamers(mostly who are on ati gfx)

I tried the CPU Physx thing on my rig (i7 920 + RD5970 @ 1080p with everything on except v-sync)

Ran very smoothly except for some framerate wobbles when turning into streets with lots of people walking. (probably a data loading issue, but it doesnt happen with Physx off).

I'll have to run some more tests, but apart from extra particles when shooting cartons and stuff, I dont know if there was a significant difference with or without it.

I noticed that the in the PS3 demo the physx logo is displayed before the demo starts. Is the PS3 version having physx?

Edit: nvm i found it

All three versions of Mafia II--PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360--will use NVIDIA's PhysX physics technology, publisher 2K Games announced today, with the PC version getting a "thorough integration" of PhysX plus some APEX clothing and particle effects.
