Mafia II

I'm not sure why it tears so much either. GTA4 was rendering a city double the size and with double the number of possible world-interactions and even it ran better than this :ko:

hey bro, i know you have a point and i tried playing with the keyboard ...not a problem but my mouse right click button gets stuck some times does not respond..i am still giving it a try but incase i find it frustrtaing please let me know how cani use the controller ....aur mera ko adat hogaya hai xbox 360 controller for pc ka. :fear:

Trust me, even I'm extremely addicted to the X360 controller. The first thing I tried when I got Mafia was to re-configure the controls. I got most of the keys remapped from the controls menu, but the only problem arrives when you have to map the aiming key on the controller. It doesn't allow you to do that and hence you won't have free 360 degree movements without it.

But if you really want to use the the controller, then try using Xpadder and see if you can get it mapped.

PhysX is so overrated in its current form! The only way you can get it to run decently is if you have a dedicated card. And even that doesn't work most times.. :|*

*in my limited understanding.

Seriously. Does it really tear that bad or did they just happen to catch the worst spots?

Horrible.

You are watching a youtube video, tearing will remain onscreen for twice the amount of time & moreover the video will cause tear in places which actually isn't happening ingame.

Anyways here is the data:

360 Avg:24.013fps Min-Max:19.5-30.0fps Tear: 0.440% (0.397%)

PS3 Avg:24.485fps Min-Max:17.5-31.5fps Tear:39.482% (2.213%)

Now before jumping to conclusion "lol almost half of the frames are torn" make sure you look at the numbers in red color. :P

The red color is the actual amount of torn frames that you'll be looking at...because the rest of the tearing happens in the overscan area, which is practically unnoticeable to eyes.

The thing is..effect of tearing almost entirely depends on perception, if there's a tear in the top portion of the screen & that portion is basically a skybox, then it'll be virtually unnoticeable. Likewise if you're moving forward in the screen like running forward or driving forward, tearing will be less noticeable than if you're turning left/right, or if an explosion occurs. Also if you are "Watching the game" but not playing it, your eyes will be much more sensitive to tearing...just like how you are able to spot out even the minute of details when you watch someone play & wonder why didn't the guy playing noticed that.

This is not made by Rockstar. The team is small & from a country which doesn't has much going on in terms of games (Czech Republic) & the team who ported the game to PS3 is an even smaller team from all the way across Atlantic ie. Canada.

It doesn't really "suffers", cause it happens in the overscan area....its kind of a soft V-sync implemented by the developer so that 95% of tearing happens in areas unnoticeable to eyes. In this case the tearing percentage/numbers are of no real use.

Like how Grandmaster (Richard Leadbetter of Digitalfoundry) put it:

Yes - this is the reason that I pretty much always clip out the overscan on PS3 titles with soft v-sync - because it is in no way representative of actually playing the game.

Soft v-sync = pretty much constant tearing, but as it's basically invisible to the human eye it has no impact on the gameplay experience.
