970 is outdated. Don't even bother. Get newer cards.

thanks :first:

^ The RX470.

But why not wait and see how the GTX1050 plays out, plus if you are spending that much, look at the RX480.

Rx 480 is around 24k which is above my budget 20k . What is the expected release date for GTX 1050 ?

The 4GB variant is ~20,999/-, you might be able to snag it for cheaper at a retailer. I would say in a month the GTX1050 should be revealed.

One last thing: is 1.20x enough or do you recommend higher?

You will have to find the optimum setting on a per-game basis, cannot tell you a golden mean.

Maybe in one year from now , the price will stabilize around 15k.

Although the current pricing is high, it has made cards like gtx 950,960 and r9 370,380 obsolete.

950 in my opinion would still be a good buy if it dropped to 10k although its still only 2gb but still a great alternative to RX460.

Gtx 1050 will most definitely match or beat RX470 so i hope it comes out soon so that AMD does not have a free reign of the 150-200 market but of course the catch being that 1050 will most likely be a 3gb card.

R7 370 also gets the award of being the most worthless card in AMD's history so atleast RX470 greatly improves on that front.

17k 470 4GB new or 15k second hand 970 , which is better ?

But the gaming performance benchmarks puts the 970 ahead of the RX 470.. Only in dx12/vulkan benchmarks the AMD cards are ahead..

Even in some games the 970 is ahead of the RX 480..

Any good reason for recommending the RX 470 over the 970? Or only because of newer 14nm technology?

^ On the nVidia front the driver support for Pascal will soon cripple their performance while the RX470 will be supported better for the forseeable future.

Benchmarks leaked for RX460.Slower than GTX 950,slower than even R7 370 and pretty much on par with 750Ti.

If these leaked numbers are true then another fail for AMD.Price is an even bigger failure.$110-130 for 2gb models and $130-150 for 4gb models.

The whole 2.8X perf/watt was a lie,its less efficient than even the Maxwell GTX 950.

So when all is said and one, between RX460,470 and 480, only the 470 is real winner, both others are flop cards.

How is 480 a flop card? On exactly what basis?

On the basis of price alone.Look at the indian prices.Cheapest 1060(zotac mini) is 21.5k and cheapest rx480(sapphire reference) is 24k.So you're paying 11.6% more for RX480 and in return getting 11% less performance.

Cards are not hit or flop based on indian pricing.

But we are in India.

A $250 price-tag means nothing to me if the price of the same hardware touches ~$420+.

This is without looking at the fact that nVidia GTX1060 custom variants are currently easily available from a multitude of brands whilst the RX480 is simply not accessible (forget about custom variants).
