Thanks!

I plan to try all venues, but given that I will try to get a white graphics card, I may have to get non-founders edition only. But will still try to get in queue as and when RPtech opens it.

Listings for 5000 series cards are already popping up on other stores such as vedant computers, sans price. The price should also get updated soon. I plan to keep tracking those and buy one around 10th Feb, once enough listings have come and price has settled a bit.

Thanks, are you using pcpricetracker to track 5090? Is it updated very frequently and the best way to track 5000 series cards?

also, how do you track when RPTech opens the queue???

also an edit - “as I have NOT bought a GPU before“ I am a complete newbie in putting together a build 😅

As of now 5090 listings are not showing up on pcpricetracker. They will soon. They get updated daily and you can sort by price so thats good. I saw listing on vedant when I searched google.

RPtech is random. You just gotta go to their troglodytic website and search for rtx cards. I am sure someone on r/Indiangaming will make a post there once rptech opens registration.

First time building a PC is a lot of fun. Enjoy!

Have you registered at RPtech? Also tried your local pc hardware dealers? The good ones (like smc international in Delhi) might be able to score you one

Have RPtech opened registrations yet? Either ways in case of 3080 they contacted me after 10 months of registering, and I had bought an AIB card in the first month at close to MSRP price anyway.

So my plan remains the same- wait till about 10th Feb and see how prices are trending. If any, preferably white, card is at a reasonable price then get it. Otherwise wait. Feb and March are going to extremely hectic for me work wise so its not like I will get much time to play. Also have PS5 pro meanwhile to pass some time. Not in a hurry.

I am also wavering on my purchase of a 5090. Its not about money so much, but rather the sheer heat and power consumption. In summers I will have to blast AC at it to keep room temp bearable. Couple with the power consumption the electricity bill will go through the roof, and my wife pays the electricity bill. Might kill me.

Not to mention to keep PC cool I will need to increase the fan speeds, which is extra noise and I really like how silent my PC runs right now. So I might get a 5080 instead if its decent. I am finding it harder and harder to justify the heat and power consumption.

Just curious, What are the psu requirements for 5090? 1000w sufficient?

1000w is mentioned as required by Nvidia, but a really good power supply will be needed. By all accounts this card is definitely hitting its 575W TDP. Add other system components and the total power consumption is easily bordering on 900-1000w. So a really good power supply (ideally an A tier one in cultist list) is recommended.

Hmm so a simple gpu upgrade isnt sufficient. If someone wants an upgrade, we might have to upgrade the psu as well.

Mine is the corsair rme1000 w, guessing it would be pushing it too much

No you are good, depending on other components. This PSU is Tier A in the cultists tier list.

Hmm nice. Although i dont plan on upgrading anytime soon. So maybe in a few years will pick a new psu, gpu and cpu but that will be as good as building a new PC (cost wise):censored:

Just curious, why not go for a 4090? It will anyway outperform 5080, plus should be available slightly cheaper now that series 5 is out

Coz 5 > 4

4090 is like 30% faster than 5080 (don't recall the exact number but definitely less than 50% faster) but it's 100% more expensive than 5080 FE price

at what price can you buy 4090?

If you go for a used one with 2-3 years of warranty you get it for approx 1.5L. But yeah, new one should be 1.8-2L ish, so almost 80% more expensive

The 24gb vram vs 16gb will definitely help in maxing out games though. If you're not interested in full path tracing at max settings then yeah 5080 is good

I think if you max out settings, turn on full Path Tracing and play at 4K DLSS4 Performance mode which renders internally at 1080p, you won't run out of VRAM

Nvidia released Transformer model in DLSS4 yesterday - now DLSS4 Performance has significantly better image quality

can you try CP2077 (4K max settings + RT Overdrive + DLSS4 Performance mode, no framegen) and Indiana Jones (4K Supreme settings + full Path Tracing + High or Very High Texture Pool size + DLSS4 Performance mode, no framegen) - to see how much VRAM it is consuming on your 4080 Super? - I guess it would be around 14-15GB or less

I tried indiana jones on ultra with full path tracing and dlss (quality), the vram requirements exceeded my 4080 super
