Crysis Is “Not” An Xbox Live Arcade Title

Since the news broke that the original Crysis would be released to consoles some confusion has spread as to where the game could be purchased. Is it an Xbox Live Arcade download? Or is it Xbox LIVE Games on Demand release? Well, the confusion has been resolved. According to Ripten, EA has made it clear that Crysis will not be an Xbox LIVE Arcade release. However, it will be available for purchase on Xbox LIVE Games on Demand. Inside is the article from Ripten.com

“If you’re an Xbox gamer, you know there’s a big distinction between Xbox Live and Xbox Live Arcade. Xbox Live is a service, Xbox Live Arcade is a download section within said service. If you’re not an Xbox gamer, you’re probably wondering why the hell this even matters. So let me fill you in.

Microsoft has various download sections throughout their service. Xbox Live Arcade is dedicated to smaller, more affordable titles. Microsoft has also put a 2GB limit on arcade titles. If your title exceeds that limit, you’ll be upgraded to Xbox Live’s Games on Demand service.

Due to these limitations, this is why you’ll never see an arcade title larger than 2gb; priced above $15, or have more than 200G in achievements unless the title offers additional downloadable content. This is also why recently announced titles like Resident Evil 4 HD will be on Xbox Live’s Games on Demand service with a total of 1000G in achievements.

So, we reached out to EA for direct conformation seeing how many gamers were confused by the mixed media reports. EA made it clear that Crysis will not be an XBLA title in their email:”

“This title is not an Xbox LIVE Arcade release, Crysis will be available on Xbox LIVE Games on Demand.”

So there you have it. Crysis will take full advantage of Xbox Live’s Games on Demand and offer a full 1000G for you achievement hunters out there.

Dont think it will include Global Illumination, Crysis 2 console ver didnt had any GI eventhough it was touted as such. (so much for all those papers released by Crytek telling how fast their GI implementation is on both consoles)

There isn't much need for GI in open world enviroments :P.Whats the use of secondry bounces of lesser relfective surface like soil and foilage when primary bounces covers up almost all the areas :P

What I do observe though is that glare effect in the HDRI map has been implemented

Well color bleeding from objects due to GI would definitely result in a more coherent look. And then we have the Dusk/Night levels and Indoors, especially the 2nd half of game is full of area that would benefit from GI as there is no primary source.

Also...this keep sgetting better and better:

According to a latest developer tweet, parallax occlussion mapping is in for consoles now.

Yep GI would be good for indoor levels.but then again they can use lens, glare effects + minimum G.I.That would look awesome.(Thats what they did with Metro2033 on 360 and it looks amazing)

Also if you notice its always easier to play around with Direct lightening with HDRI maps rather than G.I. , G.I leeches on bloody too many resources :|.

They could've used Proxies on low poly - Foilage but apparently they aren't going to do so as even that might prove to be too much for consoles to handle. On P.C foliage loses details even on GTX580 with high AA activated. :|
