SPORE

Spore on DS will just not be anywhere near the same as on the PC. The processing power required is immense.

I don't think anyone here honestly expects COD4 for the DS to be anywhere near as good as the PC game, but that's not the point.

It's not meant as an alternative to the experience, just a supplement. There are things in SPORE that can be mimicked to a lesser degree without the whole "from micro-organism to intergalactic ruler and beyond" pitch, like the whole social interaction aspect and the ability to share creatures of your own. There's even an iPhone version coming out.

iPhone > DS according to John Carmack.

In terms of hardware, yes. But so is the PSP, so why are you even pointing this out.

I'm not negating the fact that the PC version will be the version that everyone will want to play. But only when I get free time can I truly bother playing it. So if the DS version ends up justifying the means of what some (not all) of the parts that make SPORE special, I don't see why I shouldn't bother checking it.

Honestly, these talks of better technology don't mean squat to me. N+ on the PSP and DS is about the most hardcore platformer I've ever played on the go, and that thing looks like Atari Turd.

Merely a statement of fact. If you have both, you would have a hard choice to make.

I am fundamentally opposed to ports from main consoles / PCs to handhelds. The difference between PCs and consoles when it comes to most games are negligible - the one bastion remaining being RTS.

The DS / PSP / and even the iphone present a different gameplay experience and ports just don't manage that.

SPORE DS isn't a port, it's tailor-made for the DS from the ground up. But I get the gist of what you're conveying.

Well, how is it?

its good certainly and m saying without seeing or playing the pc version u start off with an alien spaceship chasing u n then lets u learn the game btw attacking other creatures is like slashing ur stylus up n down kinda like ng-ds n i somehow feel the creatures r very creepy looking especially when ur attaching parts to ur body well all in all i can recommend u buying the ds version

I didn't exactly pay for it anyway .

Well , I'm several hours into the Space Age . Its a decent enough game , honestly , I guess I walked in with too much hmmm...."hardcore RTS" in mind to enjoy the tribal and civ stage . But honestly , its a cute little game . Whether its worth the money I honestly don't know

Thanks, but I think I'll wait until more reviews come out. :(

not from EA's end at least, but I have seen drones of advertisements for it playing in those looping commercials at big retail malls. i haven't actually gone to a store to check, though

Sam, is the copy you have a retail shelf one or a review code?

Spore Gets World's Tiniest Billboard, Requires Telescope To See

Go tiny or go home. That's the Spore marketing philosophy apparently, as the folks from EA have installed what is probably the world's daintiest billboard in San Francisco's Union Square. At just 14" by 6", the Spore billboard requires a telescope to see.

Fortunately, EA has installed said telescope and aimed it directly at the wee Spore advertisement, giving passersby a chance to enjoy some smartly conceived marketing. If you happen to be in the Bay Area, specifically Union Square, you have a brief opportunity to check it out.
