Just got a ps3, yesterday after an update there was no display on screen but after switching of the monitor and switching it back on I got the display. I don't know whether this is a ps3 or monitor issue but I suspect the latter. This scared me a lot since buying a ps3 was a long dream for me. So I just want to know how long have ur ps3 been working and what all are the steps to safe guard my ps3

I would suggest you go through the PS3 FAQs sections once. Should clear a lot of your doubts

Also don't worry about it much, enjoy your new console :) As long as you take good care of it there shouldn't be any issues for a long time to come.

Use a ups if you already dont have one.

Keep the console covered while not is use. Dust accumulation can cause issues later.

Enjoy.

Dude, when I connected the ps3 to the ups the ps3 didn't switch on at all :( I think the plug is not fitting the ports properly

Oh... May b bcoz its ps3 is 2 pin vs the supplied out of 3 in ups. So it might get loose in certain sockets.. Ive received the ups. Yet to test it. May b a converter pin thing would help? Like 2 pin to 3 pin?

Or connect an extension cord to ups and connect ps3 to extension? :-)

Yup that's certainly the only way TT o do it. But I have read that it is not asllways advisable to connect an extension chord to the ups anyhow be careful and let me know how it goes :)
