Flipkart, yes I have seen the price. But the thing is, for these kind of goods I like to personally see it and then buy it, or someone on my behalf buys it for me. Even if they provide a cash on delivery thing, still I won't get that satisfaction.

Thanks for the information though. :)

I was saying that you get a feel of the camera at GK Vale or something and if you ok with price there, buy from there or online. I doubt you would save much though as you can bargain.

See, don't get confused with which model and all. Every model (**in this price range) is almost the same. I have a t2i, cos I liked how it fit my hand. I was also trying the d3100 but oddly felt the t2i to sit better in my hand. For you, it might be different. So jus make sure you are comfortable holding the camera.

D3100/5100 r all good. Even canon t2i is an excellent buy.

Never go for photography classes, its my strict views ...

Photography is an art and it has to come by itself and to learn the nuances of the camera and lens, google should help.

click as much as you want first, you will learn one by one .. Post pics in some nice photography forums and ask good photographers to give their critique, with some constructive criticism you will definitely learn.

As you game me a feedback that my pictures are not that sharp, i will surely look into my camera LCD as soon as i take another picture, whether it is sharp or not ... I think, this is the process of learning and the creativity will come when u see a lot of pictures in flickr. Is there anything wrong with my views ?

@SJ: I'd disagree. I think a photography course is good to learn the basics about how to construct a photo, and learning what choices you can and can't make in taking photographs. I'd couple that with going to as many photo exhibits, and looking at as many photos as possible to develop your eye, and through that your style.

Yeah, i never said that attending photo exhibitions and photo shoots doesn't help ... But, i really don't like the idea of spending cash and going for a photography course .. tell me how many such photography courses were there before 5 years ?

Its a business that is growing and i know one friend who has a diploma in Photography and his skills are really crappy with a D90. Another friend of mine just attends photo exhibitions, flickr and meets up with good photographers online and mostly clicks a lot of photos and his pics are a real treat to watch and has won awards for his photography ...

You can check his flickr account for yourself and he has never spent cash for a photography course,

i have a 500 D stock with 18-55, please suggest which should be my next lens and what other things should i be looking to get for the camera.

How are sigma and tamron lens, is this any good -->

Sigma 70-300 DG Macro 1:2

Rs 7,999.00

Lens Construction : 9/13

(Groups/Element)

Angle of View : 34°21'-8°15'

Type of Zooming : Rotation

Diaphragm Blade Number : 9

Filter Diameter : 62mm

Mount Available : Nikon & Canon EOS Available

2 Year Warranty from Sigma

@anshul: Your pics are heavenly, easily the best photographer around :)

Depends upon what you want to shoot. Portraits, landscape, indoors, wildlife, sports, macros (flowers, bugs etc), advert flyers, they all have specialized lenses for each of them. One advice though, try and stay away from all-in-one ultra wide to ultra zoom lenses like Tamron 18-200mm, they suck at both ends and they are not much better at mid-range than your kit lens. If you want a good walk around lens with good enough range then try Canon 15-85 IS USM, its about as good as their L series but costs way less (though still more expensive than your camera :P)

And get a tripod, the next most important accessory after lens and carrybags.

@sherry, I find your pictures lacking clarity/focus. Maybe you can do some post processing or I don't know if you can do something while taking the photo itself. Hope you don't mind the feedback !

I have same lens, came in with the camera and it sucks, especially at narrow end. Picture is soft and way too much fringing.

@SJ, I did not find any good online sources.

Most stuff I read online, will explain about aperture, iso etc etc. But to be honest, I'm not really aware how they come together to make a good photo. For ex: If I see a sunset, I'm not really sure of what my iso should be or to what I should set my shutter speed to ? I'm not aware of what filter to apply or what subjects should I include in the frame. Lighting is another big aspect about which I'm totally clueless. If you have something that approaches the subject of digital photography in a more practical way ( beginner friendly video tutorials would be a bonus), please do share. I will be more than happy to go through them :D Will make some use for my ipad as well and save me 4.5k !

Here we go Neo, i can tell you on what perspective you need to see a picture ...

When you view a picture in flickr, don't just see the picture .. click on actions above the picture and check the EXIF details, you get all the settings for that picture like Aperture, ISO, exposure, etc. For a sunset, see what exact setting he has used and when you see a similar sunset try to remember the setting and try( Its difficult, but practice makes perfection )...

Assuming you are a beginner and you have a DSLR,

1) Try to shoot in raw, which helps you to adjust the exposure of the picture in postprocessing ( In jpeg, it is very difficult to get the white balance right )

2) Have your ISO in Auto and shoot in Aperture Priority mode ( Most serious photographers also use this mode ). You really don't know what shutter speed you have to set for a particular lighting, so in aperture mode it decides by itself.

3) Read about the Aperture concept online ( i mean the f value usually ranges from f4.0 to f22 ) it has to be set manually according to the conditions for good results.

4) The most easiest way for beginners is, shoot in Full auto mode and check the exif data in the camera itself and then move to manual mode and try to toggle ur aperture and shutter speeds and try with the same values manually ... according to the result you can actually vary

5) Most photographers click around 300 pictures in an outing and get only 1 or 2 good pics out of it. once i clicked 350 pics of a dance competition and processed only 1 pic, prepare to be disappointed with your result and more you click and experiment you get better result.

Hope this will help a beginner to an extent

Also people like Anshul here should be able to help you guys when u have a doubt ...

I partly agree with Sherry. Neo, Id rather suggest you go to some photo walks or join some clubs. And go with them to some spots and start clicking. They will best guide you and with time youll learn. Again, like sj said, read exif info of all interesting photos you see. You can then correlate the information and predict suitable settings for your own photo.

Also get Fx studio HD app for your iPad 2. Fantastic app for some cool effects. Plus dead cheap.
