@ neo, like I said, it needs to processed and cropped a little. It was shot in complete darkness so obviously you can't nail it at the location. Also, that city is miles away from where I was standing so the visibility reduces and hence the image quality.

The MOON photo taken with my friend's canon 500D with a 55-250mm canon lens. This was my first encounter with a SLR. Though i know about SLRs after I have read about all cameras from various sites for the past 5 years. I always wished one but couldn't afford it. This month I will buy a Canon 550D with kit lens and 55-250mm lens.

Do you guys think i have taken the right choice. I have chosen this model cause i am comfortable with canon and it suits my budget though i have seen the nikon d5100.

Thanks guys :). @ sherry, I just need to see it on my screen at home and make small adjustments. And yes, it took a lot of effort to find such a view and then head back as soon as the weather started becoming rough. And on top of that bears and cheetahs start roaming around at night in dalhousie.

I got it from US (around 22k). Indian price is around 32k I think. Pics wise, I'm still a newbie, so I don't have any cool pics to boast of. But check out Donz's photos, I think he also uses the same camera. The camera is very user friendly, more or less like your p&s. You can just set it to auto and click away and most of the times it sets everything right properly. Even in dark/low light conditions it adjusts the light very well and I'm yet to come across a situation where it didn't take the photo to my satisfaction. There are many preset modes just like your p&s (child, indoor, portrait, landscape etc), so you don't really need to use the manual settings unless you are into some pro photography stuff. And you have a good display to give sufficient info on the photos.

I would say go to a studio and get a hands on and see if the camera fits in your hands. I find it very comfortable in my palms. Its a bit on the heavier weight wise though. Also, quite bulky so you need to handle with care.

Guys, best SLR in a 25-30 range? Basically to click photos of the family, weddings and the occasional vacation.

Both the Canon's and the Nikon's are very good, just have your hand on the entry level cameras and then decide. Your comfort to use and the interface are a lot more important than the features in it ;)

@Neo and Sherry Jose -- Thanks for the advice

But do these SLRs carry international warranty? Cos 10k is a like a pretty large difference. I can source it from dubai or singapore if need be.

yep, afaik, Nikon supports international warranty. But do remember that 22k is without SD memory card + camera bag. 22k is with camera+kit lens. camera bag+memory card cost me an additional 2k. In India, 32k is with Memory card+camera bag+kit lens.

@Madmage and neo

Do recheck on that. I dont think its true. Two year warranties and free sensor cleaning etc are for products brought in India only.

edit: I was right. International warranty is only for film SLRs and lenses. Warranty is a must. Not to mention, free sensor cleaning if it gets dirty. I dont know about Nikon, but canon has 2 year extended warranty along with this.
