Bird Bird Bird
Nice! It looks very sharp, and you got nice long trails. Thankfully steady hands + Nikon's comparatively heavy body (giving stability) + VR. And minor adjustments in Lightroom.
Pacifier
Ignore if this is the wrong thread but i am planning to buy myself a DSLR but i am not much into photography "yet" but sure am interested. I have boiled down my options to Sony NEX-6 with both 16-50mm and 55-210mm lens combo. I know there might be Canons and Nikons out there which might be better than this guy but i am Sold for the compactness and as i am a beginner, i feel it suits me. Is it a good buy? When compared to NEX-7. I see a tradeoff with MPs i.e. 16.1 vs 24.3 on NEX-7 but i don't intend to do Large prints but it might help for zooming in some long shots. But for the price difference and me being a beginner, thought NEX-6 (which is released after NEX-7) is the best value for money. What do you guys think.? Thanks! Bird Bird Bird
^^ IMO, get the best DSLR you can afford at the moment. Don't think in terms of being a beginner or a pro, because somewhere down the line you'll def feel that your "current" hardware is lacking a critical feature or more. I've a D5100, which is supposedly a good beginner DSLR, and I curse myself many times not going for a higher end model, say a D7000 or higher which has more AF points, Inbuilt AF motor, lens focus correction etc. Have no idea about Sony, though if online gurus are correct, it is fast catching up with Canon & Nikon. Nevertheless, try and get a prime lens (say a 35/50/55mm) for portraits/closeups at the least. For the other lenses, learn as you go and see what clicks your instinct. LaughingMan777
Nex 6 is better in terms of firmware, control layout as well as some reviews say the larger sensor pixel area gives sharper images than the Nex7 (debatable). Nex6 is good value for money. I've got the 5R and the major difference there is that it doesnt have a viewfinder and i think Nex6 has an additional rotary knob up top which I feel is a good thing since i keep fiddling between settings and the 5R control is not the most intuitive. However, the tri-control on Nex7 had some rave reviews. Edit: for the same cost, you'll be hard pressed to find a better Canon/Nikon in terms of performance as well as features. I too was thinking max of around 800 but that only gets me a NEX-6 with kit lens which is 16-50mm. I was also suggested by some one else as well to get the f1.8 50mm lens but the 55-210mm zoom lens is tempting me more. it kind of makes the system complete.(for me). I agree that for portraits the prime lens are good but thinking if 16-50mm will suffice initially and later il get the prime lens. I am eyeing specifically the below bundle which is around 1050$ more than i initially thought but a one time investment. (I am tempted to go for NEX-) , i.e. to go for the best, but it seemed very pricey . i.e. 1248$ for kit lens) http://www.amazon.com/Sony-Digital-16-50mm-55-210mm-Accessory/dp/B00CA8FRFS/ref=sr_1_17?ie=UTF8&qid=1376120583&sr=8-17&keywords=nex+6 If i buy only the Cam with kit lens, it is matching ebay.in price where i also get warranty in india and no use of me buying it here in US. But this is a different story though. Nex 6 is better in terms of firmware, control layout as well as some reviews say the larger sensor pixel area gives sharper images than the Nex7 (debatable). Me too went through lots and lots of comparison videos , etc. The trade off seemed very minimal (for me) NEX-6 has more AF points as well. More ISO range and less noise during night shots compared to NEX-7. I personally used the viewfinder in a shop, it was AMAZING. . That is the only reason i am going for the 6. Other wise i would have gone with 5R which is less pricey and well suited for my needs. Thanks for you guys' response. Will keep you posted on what i end up with . Btwn would u consider 16-50mm and a prime lens combo better than 16-50mm and 55-210mm? for some reason , a novice like me, it is hard to accept the fact that the prime lens and the 16-50mm lens are way different but the range usage is almost same, so just wondering. Again depends on what you intend to shoot. 16-50 seems good on paper, but 3-4 months after using it, you'll yearn for better bokeh, clarity, sharpness, which only a prime would provide. I have the 18-105mm, which theoretically covers most of the focal lengths I would normally shoot (apart from super zooms), but is riddled with distortion at 18 and sub par clarity at 105. Not to mention a subtle vignetting at the edges (though might be desirable sometimes). Not the sharpest lens at 18 or 55 or 105. Mind you, it's not a bad lens for it's price, but then as with everything in photography, you yearn for what you don't have ! Read more here and here. The 16-50mm will get boring very quickly. Its good for those moments when you r not really doing photography, but just clicking pics (bday party n stuff). And pretty much every kit lens of every manufacturer is crap (except the Canon 18-135mm). So yes, go for a either prime or a 55-210 right from the start. The prime will give you crisp clear shots. Eg: the 35mm f2.0 (or lower) prime is excellent for portraits with good background defocus. The 19mm prime will give stunning landscape shots. Sigma offers both and I can testify they are great. The 55-210 you'll find very useful for nature and landscape. Never tried it. But I dont think u have many other options for a long range lens. You may also want to check out some of the Rokinon lenses, esp the 8mm fisheye. Manual lens and cheap as dirt but very sharp. Also, Lens adapters! The great thing about the Nex is due to the short distance between the mount and the sensor, it will accept pretty much any lens with the correct adapter. So, I've got a canon adapter and a 50mm f1.8 which i operate on manual mode. The downside is the aperture is fixed, but the clarity of that lens cannot be rivaled even at double the cost. Same goes for the 18-135mm. I think the Nex outperforms Canon (i sold mine after getting Nex) when combined with a Canon lens So buying Canon, Nikon and Minolta adapters is a good investment in the long run and you can always borrow your friend's lenses (though the reverse is not true ). Lastly, get an IR remote control, very useful. and also check out "Macro Rings" if you are into experimenting.

The kit lens that comes with a d3200. 18-55mm. I took 5-6 shots, then chose 2 that I could combine and put them together. So it's actually not just 1 image. Solitaire
Why you no photosphere? Cos photosphere no gimme enough pixels yo. Unless you mean make something like Android's photosphere using the DSLR images I took... Well i don't have enough wide ranging shots (and there's nothing interesting behind really) to do one. This is from one end of the lake, behind and to the side there's more than enough people and I had to try hard to get a good number of usable pictures.
