Like if that matters!! A good photograph an be taken from any camera.

 

I know that does not matter in most situations. Please stop trying to act patronizing as though you are Ansel Adams which you are NOT! I know a thing or two about photography myself. If it didnot matter, they wouldn't manufacture the MarkIV and the Nikon D3X right and every fashion, wildlife or wedding photographer would all use those darned sony cybershots? I dont think I need to tell you why the D3X or MarkIV is the best tool a photographer can have if you're as knowledgeable as you implicitly claim. Its pretty obvious when I said that he has a 1D so he must be a professional and has grown up to this camera. Unlike most in this thread who are just starters.

Anyway, Nikhil/MT/ledvipe etc, LR3 is out. I am downloading it right now, will see how it matches up to Aperture 3. Will try it out over the weekend.

Anyways a good camera does matters, but what I wanted to say is that you don't necessarily need a good camera for a great pic. Its all about how you depicts that situation. Most people use their DSLRs just like a point-and-shoot camera. Oh, and I have no idea who Ansel adams is. And frankly I don't care either. Photography is just a hobby for me, I am not planning to go pro ever anyways.

Yeah, but you should experiment with your lens, manual settings, bokeh etc. Composition, two thirds etc can be achieved with a PnS also, but the ability to be able to tweak the settings to achieve desired DoF, or bokeh etc is something only SLR's can give. Or those high end Canon G series for eg. I dont even own the latest gear. I use my uncle's ageing Nikon D40, but it still cranks brilliant images.

 

Oh u haven't heard of Ansel Adams?! Just google him and see what he achieved with ancient film technologies in 1940s-60s. No one composed photos like him. He used to wait for years at a spot to wait for the right time to click his perfect sunset or sunrise. People even now try to replicate his pics but have failed. Really fascinating pictures.

Give a review mate. Haven't really tried out these s/w but the feature list of Lightroom 3 seems very interesting for managing my shots.

Hey guys, sorry for the late reply.

First, I use a Canon 5D Mark II with some L glass. But most of my pictures are taken with a Canon 350D.

 

I use Adobe Lightroom for 99% of the processing, Photoshop for occasional major surgery.

Guys am thinking of picking up an entry level DSR, am not too experienced with cams & would like like your suggestions on which one to go for......I've found Canon EOS 1000D, Nikon D3000 pretty good till now. Lemme know any other recommended ones.

 

Also i wont be changing cameras every 1-2yrs so this'll be sticking with me for quite some time......Please advice.

I say go for the canon 1000D simply because the lens range in canon is wide & u ll find good no. of places here in India giving out the L series lenses on rent....

The 1000D is almost 2 years old now. When is canon going to update this model The camera just above it has seen 2 refreshes since 2008. (450-500-550)

i tried to take a close up of a bug..i used macro mode with no flash, but however much stable i try to keep my hand, the pic just din come perfect..ther was always some blur in it! I hadnt zoomed either, to minimize shake but it didnt work..

Camera side - ISO, shutter speed, aperture

Lighting - different time of day, indoors/outdoors, artificial lighting

Tripod

 

Or maybe your camera is just not focusing up close... have you been able to take similar pics earlier? Maybe you could try focusing on something else (something bigger) for distance, then dial in the settings you want?

 

Don't think I can help much beyond this. Try letting the more experienced guys know what equipment you're using and the conditions under which you're unable to get the pic.

i was shooting indoors, n the camera focuses perfectly before i take the pic.. even extremely light shake is producing blur..

Some great info here...I have a Canon Powershot A75, point and shoot camera. Not great at all but till I buy an SLR this would have to do!

 

I wanted to check what settings do I need to have to take some good pics in low lighting with this camera?

 

I know its step down for some of you with really high end equipment. But, I'd appreciate any assistance / pointers you may have for me.

Btw what are you using to put the Pano together? You could try including a little more in there - some pictures have mainly sky/water. In some of the others you could choose your component images better - you'll notice parts of your pictures are completely blown out.

The shots are joined by the camera itself. It puts a white dot that acts as a reference point on the screen and then you can follow that dot while you shift your view until the camera tells you to stop. You can ask the camera to put up panos of 2-pics or 3-pics as per your requirements and once you've clicked 2/3 pictures in a sweep it'll stop and then join it together on the camera itself.

 

Been using this camera for the past year or so but the panoramas came out really well when we took pictures in China half a year back. This time they weren't quite as amazing. Normal non-pano photos are in my picasa album, can put up the link here if people are interested.
