jDaMn
Some great info here...I have a Canon Powershot A75, point and shoot camera. Not great at all but till I buy an SLR this would have to do! I wanted to check what settings do I need to have to take some good pics in low lighting with this camera? I know its step down for some of you with really high end equipment. But, I'd appreciate any assistance / pointers you may have for me. I also use a Canon compact. A few things you could look at are:1. Menu settings - I like 100 ISO, evaluative, superfine, large, image stabilization on shoot, 2 second review for adjustments to the shot. 2. Control - I strongly recommend aperture priority. Auto is ok if you're just clicking, but (I'm not sure about your cam) some manual control is essential. 3. Get an idea of gray scale and what medium tone is for correct adjustment. Depending on how much light you're shooting in, you could try: 1. Bumping up the ISO (though I get really grainy results at the high end in anything but good light). 2. Opening up completely - but remember this will restrict your depth of field. 3. Flash - very useful, though I can't seem to use it well. Look up 'fill in flash' for some situations in which flash is very helpful. 4. Get your own lighting in your pics. 5. Get one of those small tripods. Don't rush for a DSLR - I find my compact good enough for my skill level, and my other cam is just lying around. I'm trying to work up to using the fine control it can give me. Edited June 18, 2010 by jDaMn
progamer
guys i need some help taking pics.. i tried to take a close up of a bug..i used macro mode with no flash, but however much stable i try to keep my hand, the pic just din come perfect..ther was always some blur in it! I hadnt zoomed either, to minimize shake but it didnt work.. wats the solution?? hey the blur is coz of the shake when u are pressing the shutter button,so first of all use a tripod if u got one, else set the camera on timer, take a deep breath and hold the cam until the shutter clicks automatically after some time, else kidnap the bug , bring it on a table or something where u have sufficient light and a stable ground for ur camera, take the pic and crop it and u have a macro there!!! jDaMn
I know, this is quite a late reply but anyway: Thank you. This is what I used - http://gizmodo.com/347742/olympus-sp+570-p...cro-photography The shots are joined by the camera itself. It puts a white dot that acts as a reference point on the screen and then you can follow that dot while you shift your view until the camera tells you to stop. You can ask the camera to put up panos of 2-pics or 3-pics as per your requirements and once you've clicked 2/3 pictures in a sweep it'll stop and then join it together on the camera itself. Been using this camera for the past year or so but the panoramas came out really well when we took pictures in China half a year back. This time they weren't quite as amazing. Normal non-pano photos are in my picasa album, can put up the link here if people are interested. Yes! Please put up your pics - include them in your post so that lazy people also see! Bunch of people active on this thread but very few are putting up pics... whatsthepoint 20x zoom on that cam! But I'm a little skeptical about how well a cam can stitch a pano, especially when it's not a simple sweep but a (sort of) fisheye effect. There are great free softwares out there - maybe you could compare the results and let us know? hey the blur is coz of the shake when u are pressing the shutter button,so first of all use a tripod if u got one, else set the camera on timer, take a deep breath and hold the cam until the shutter clicks automatically after some time, else kidnap the bug , bring it on a table or something where u have sufficient light and a stable ground for ur camera, take the pic and crop it and u have a macro there!!!He really seems to like that bug... I wonder if she has a sister Thanks buddy. Very helpful indeed...will try these and see if I get better results. Cheers Good luck, but remember the technical stuff is the just the starting point for good photography (this kind of statement makes me feel so pro ). Any suggestions? Not really a suggestion, but I'd like to see a slightly underexposed version of this, even if the foreground loses out. Nice pic though, I'm sure you have other great pics you can put up
