Tyler
Okay, I faced a dragon last night and it pwned me and my party.... BADLY! I don't think I was supposed to fight it anyway, but I'm sure it would have been easier with an isometric view and a proper pause function. I almost got it down to 50% health but ran out of potions. Will try it again after a couple of levels. I also didn't have Wynne in the party so mass healing wasn't an option. I'll get her next time. BTW, some battles are really, really tough. I was doing the "Sacred Urn of Ashes" quest and there was this one fight at the Caverns near the Village of Haven just before going to the Mountaintop and it took me nearly half an hour of retries and different strategies to get past that. Eventually I had to resort to the cheap but effective 'lure enemies into narrow spaces' trick and I finally managed to kill everyone. I must say the pause function in the console version just doesn't feel right. There was also an option to solve that part without fighting but it was against what my character believes in I don't know why graphics are a problem though. The dungeons and cities look great, it's only the outdoor areas that are a little bland. Then again, you won't be spending a lot of time outdoors. This isn't a sandbox RPG like Oblivion. @hammerhead, The Witcher had some very good graphics and it came out two years ago. Oblivion and Fallout 3 are very good looking too. And check out Risen on the PC, it's probably one of the best looking games to come out this year. And although technically not an RPG, Borderlands is quite a sweet looking game too. So yeah there isn't a lack of RPGs with good graphics. As for DAO, it was probably designed with a top down isometric view in mind (like NWN). The third-person POV probably came in later. Due to this the graphics aren't as polished as other games featuring a third-person view.
Daedalus
FUUUUUUCK! the finally battle is raping my a*s. 30 hours and im done with the game. :|
Tyler
30 hours??.... just 30 hours??... I'm 20 hours in and have only explored 35% of the world. Looks like you skipped a lot of the side quests. How do you manage to do that? I play RPGs because there is always so much to do and I love to take my time exploring, looting and leveling up (to the point where battles stop being challenging). And please no further unmarked spoilers about the finale!
Daedalus
finished. GOTY. but i enjoyed Mass effect's story more than this.
Daedalus
@tyler, first playthrough for the story. 2nd time, i'll play properly( as a mage). and what spoilers? i didnt say anything. :|
Tyler
You said it was difficult Anyway, j/k. I was just afraid that you may go into specifics and so I panicked. BTW, I can never do the "first playthrough for the story second for the rest" thing either. I simply cannot let all the XP and items pass me by. Yeah I'm a hopeless OCD riddled completionist. Daedalus
nor can i but i am forced to. exams on monday. there was no way i would be allowed to play and i couldn't give an exam when this would be occupying my mind. plus i probably shouldn't have started as a rogue. 2nd playthough in during the winter holidays. will take my own sweet time then. besides, the side quests are mostly average(especially when you're in a hurry). also, ME story> this IMO. but the world is far, far richer. hammerhead
Eventually I had to resort to the cheap but effective 'lure enemies into narrow spaces' trick and I finally managed to kill everyone. That's not cheap. I did the real cheap thing, reduce the difficulty Now I regret it The thing with me is that once I lower the difficulty, I almost never change back. Because the character starts to feel more 'stronger'. That is why I prefer games that stick to only one difficulty for a playthrough or games that have no difficulty (Demon's soul). I had faced the same problem with Oblivion, once I reduced the difficulty to enter the gates of oblivion. I never changed it back. Anyhow, I managed to get Blood Dragon Armor and undoubtedly its the best I have come across so far.

Tyler
The Blood Dragon armor is nice but I found a better one called the Juggernaut armor. You'll find it in the Brecilian Forest if you disturb each of the "ancient tombs" in that area and kill the Revenants. I'm gonna put it on Alistair. And I also forged a sweet drake scale armor from Wade in Denerim for Leilana. She looks happy @spindoctor, it's best armor I've come across for a Rogue so far. Aftrunner
Wallpaper if anyone is interested. Anyway, gonna check today and see if I can find the PC version. Along with L4D2 and Borderlands. All of that should sort out my gaming needs for the next month or so.
Tyler
Good luck! Lemme know what you find. The 360 version of DAO kinda pisses me off at times and I desperately need to try Borderlands co-op on the PC.
gonekrazy3000
The bosses guarding those juggernaut armour pieces were murder for me when i was lvl 8-9 >.< still... it was definitely worth it although i still think honnolith's helm (i think its called that...) is a lot better.... +2 to all attributes ? now that is a good helm.....
