Main reasons cited for low scores are:

* Non-interesting main story

* Abrupt ending (possibly a cliffhanger)

* Bland NPCs

* Only single hub (Prague city)

* Repeat of HR formula, not taking enough risks / no gameplay evolution (Devs playing safe)

But its divided into many quadrants with each being bigger than the Philadelphia or Hengsha district of HR. Some of the missions take you out of the country (? are there still countries in Deus Ex world?) as well.

The common thread seems to be the ending, but DE: HR had a sh*t ending too where sci-fi is abruptly dropped for zombie mode and press one of three switches to change the world BS.

Deus ex never gives you a complete story, it is a game based on philosophy. How you view the world/game over/ending is totally up to you. Its not a game where you are told what to do, rather what Stanleys parable pointd how a game should be your story rather than a movie.

The 3 endings were based on the quotes/phrases like a novel/text based game where you imagine what would have had happened if you chose this path. Deus ex doesnt judge the ending, good bad righr wrong, all it shows how the world will go on from here and how you think you can take it to glory either through chaos or freedom or tight security

HR had a very conclusive ending. Even if there was no sequel, people wouldnt have complained.

But judging by MD reviews, the end is incomplete and feels rushed and unpolished. I dont think the game even has multiple endings. People are asking for DLCs with a proper ending.

Those who got the review copy are liking it. DLC story really kills the main game story and force us to wait for few more months, not to mention paying extra for it. The only DLC's I bought till now is Mordor and Witcher 3.

Yes, I'm not sure about multiple endings either. There is only one "boss" enemy at the end and once you dispatch him, it's the end credits. That's similar to The Missing Link DLC, rather than the main HR campaign.

"..as there’s exactly one boss at the end of the story, and he’s incredibly lackluster. It’s not like there was a large build up to it to begin with, but it’s as simple as sneaking up behind him and punching in the back of the head. Roll credits. I’m not even exaggerating."

Additionally, Season Pass will contain:

•Two new story missions: “System Rift” and “A Criminal Past”

•The “Assault” and “Tactical” packs, which include various weapons and items

• 4 Praxis Kits

• 5000 Credits

• 5 “Booster Packs” and 20 “Chipsets” for Deus Ex: Mankind Divided – Breach

On Steam forums, one reviewer who played both of the DLC story missions commented:

And most importantly - the two story missions, despite being designed as being part of the main game, are not actually in the main game. They're only accessed by the title screen. Which is clunky, annoying, and means you don't get any of the benefits like XP or anything found in them.
Do NOT get the season pass, is what I'm saying. And this is someone who utterly loves the game. I've played System Rift to completion and it's an okay mission at best, but it really needs to be in the main game and was clearly designed that way. I don't mind DLC missions but they've got to be accessible in-game.

In the light of this, I highly doubt these DLC missions will extend the game story beyond the main campaign. It would seem the unsatisfactory and anti-climactic ending was very much intended and leaves the door open for the next game in the series.

Rest of the items in the season pass are essentially cheats to get overpowered at the beginning of game. I am going to disable them all.

Pre ordered. Pre loading now.

I think this is the first game I have pre ordered on Steam ever. And the first one since.....Halo Reach IIRC?

Dishonored 2 might be the only other game I pre order.

I haven't played any DX game. Is it recommended I play this before HR?

I absolutely loved HR. And the first DX is probably my all time favorite game (hence the avatar) and I genuinely couldnt tell you two lines about the story of either of the two games.

If you are super way wayyyyyyyy into video game stories, its worth youtubing some recap. Otherwise, it doesnt matter.

Nope. Gameplay is all that matters to me in a videogame.

Dont get me wrong both DX and HR are brilliant in their gameplay (its the only thing that matters to me too) and worth playing on their own just because they are good games.

But I dont think you would be lost in Mankind Divided if you didnt play the previous ones. Like I said, I barely remember jack and I expect to be fine.
