Long War 2 out now!

In some ways, it really is a whole new game built inside XCOM 2. Here’s the feature list:

Features include:

1) A much longer campaign, running for 100 to 120 missions on average

2) Infiltration mechanics that require you to send out multiple squads at once

3) Manage resistance Havens and have resistance members scrounge for supplies, gather intelligence or recruit more people to your cause

4) Nine soldier classes: Sharpshooter, Shinobi, Ranger, Assault, Gunner, Grenadier, Specialist, Technical and Psionic (plus Sparks for DLC owners), each with unique secondary weapons

5) Two new weapon tiers, lasers and coilguns

6) Dozens of new enemies and smarter battlefield AI

7) ADVENT strategic AI that tries to counter your moves

There are also new mission types like prison breaks, and many other options besides.

It’s a bigger and slower take on XCOM

^^Correct. This is not included.

From community leader:

Absent any new information, the assumption is that this is not included in the reinforcement pack, because the reinforcement pack listed exactly what DLC it provided, and that's all out. Plus I'd be surprised if this didn't cost at least as much as the reinforcement pack, but that's just my educated guess.

Anyways, it seems to be an expansion.

XCOM® 2: War of the Chosen adds extensive new content in the fight against ADVENT when additional resistance factions form in order to eliminate the alien threat on Earth. In response, a new enemy, known as the “Chosen,” emerges with one goal: recapture the Commander. This expansion includes new Hero classes to counter the “Chosen”, new enemies, missions, environments and increased depth in strategic gameplay.

  • NEW FACTIONS & HERO CLASSES
  • NEW ALIEN & ADVENT THREATS
  • NEW ENVIRONMENTS AND MISSION OBJECTIVES
  • ENHANCED STRATEGY LAYER
  • GREATER CUSTOMIZATION & REPLAYABILITY
  • CHALLENGE MODE

Detailed information available on Steam.

Extensive Details on XCOM 2: War of the Chosen

tl;rd

  • Rulers getting scaled back. They guard certain facilities and only after assaulting them will they run amok. Also won't respond to EVERY action (should be easier to handle).
  • The Chosen will now randomly show up in maps to ruin your day. Hunter (snipes you from across the map), Assassin (melee blademaster?), Warlock (summons spectres to fight you). The chosen attempt to subdue and capture XCOM operatives to interrogate them, building up a "knowledge" meter. The more knowledge they have, the more they mess with your operations.
  • Chosen are not working together, so you can deal with their agendas individually. Over time, the chosen level up with new abilities/weaknesses. This system was influenced by Lotr: Shadow of Mordor. In addition, there are new human factions working against the chosen, which you can ally with to get bonuses in your ops.
  • New advent soldiers. The priest (which mind controls, buffs, and has stasis. Seems like a weaker psi-op) and the purifier (pyromaniac with flamethrower and incendiary grenades).
  • A new alien, the spectre, which can knock out and clone your units to attack you.
  • New enemy faction, the Lost. Zombie-type creatures. Mindless and numerous. Weak to fire, and apparently you get bonus actions if you kill them.
  • Mission-wide modifiers being added to mix-up the tactical layer. Examples are high-explosive (explosives all over the map, which can be targeted by friend or foe), Horde (all Lost, no aliens/advent), Savage (all beast-like monsters, such as chryssalids and faceless).
  • The new human factions have recruitable hero units. They're expensive but powerful. As an example, the Reaper unit is concealed, with a detection range of one square, so fights start on your terms.
  • AWC is gone, replaced by infirmary. Skill points, acquired by doing certain things in missions (flanking attacks, getting higher ground, etc) and by leveling up, will allow you to customize your troops at the infirmary. Each unit has 4 skills, and it seems like they're random. You can spread your skill points around, or juice up just a few units. You also get squad-wide perks for allying heavily with the 3 human factions.
  • Covert Actions. New mission types where you send 2-3 soldiers and 0-1 supporting units (engineer/scientist). It doesn't sound like there is a tactical layer to this - you either succeed and get a bonus or fail. Failure penalties include the capture of units, or an ambush counter attack.
  • Squad relationship. Units in a squad can build a relationship and get bonuses, such as giving his bondmate a free action, or initiating a dual strike where the bondmate doesn't expend an action.
  • Will redesign. It's now a fatigue-like mechanic. If a soldier is repeatedly sent into battle, lowering his will, he can get negative traits. For example, the unit will attack instead of going into overwatch, or constantly reloading their weapon. These traits can be healed at the infirmary.
  • Research breakthroughs. After completing a research task, you'll get a chance to do something else immediately. A research project that increases damage for certain gun types by 1, for example.
  • Engine fixes. Switch version? Longer game (about 10-15 missions longer). Challenge mode.
