Dark Souls 3

I couldn't get the parry timings right either. So I switched to the eagle greatsheild. The extra stability is such a huge difference maker.

Do you go above the 70% equip load with that greatshield?

I am almost 80% through the game and I still use my Knight shield that I started with. Haven't found anything better.

Almost at the end, at the 2nd last boss now.

This game is.......... interesting. I absolutely get that its doing a lot of things that are basically a "Greatest hits" version of the Souls series and when it comes to consistency of level design its probably the best in the series. But overall I still feel like this is the weakest entry to the series. And if anything, its made me look back on Dark Souls 2 (especially the complete version with the DLC) with a lot more fondness.

I will write more once I have a chance but it definitely feels like a bit of a let down. Dont get me wrong, compared to most games or even most RPGs its definitely a cut above. But compared to the past Souls games its a disappointment in a LOT of areas.

I will start DS2 and platinum Bloodborne after beating this. This game has again given me the syndrome of if it's not Soulsborne, it's not worth playing.

Had same kind of effect during Bloodborne. Very difficult to like other games for some time.

Can anyone explain summons in brief? First time I am playing online. BB I played entirely offline due to lag issues. Now I am wired.

You can invade and summon only while your Ember is restored.

Up to 6 players can interact in the same session.

Different covenant, different summons and objectives.

To summon someone, just interact with the signs. You can also place your sign if you want to co-op or fight.

White Sign Soapstone - phantom, friendly.

With Warriors of the Sunlight covenant active - sign will be yellow, jolly co-op, friendly.

With Mound-Maker covenant active - sign will be purple, mad spirit and you will be posting it as a challenge. Like someone can interact with your sign and play quick 1v1.

You can invade others too. If you see red or purple signs, it means it's not friendly fight. Basically PvP. If you see white signs, it means you are summoning for help.

You can also invade by using Red-eye orb. The client automatically invades the world of the selected host.

Using the Dried Finger resets the invasion timer and allows a host player to summon a 3rd phantom as well opening themselves up to a 2nd invading phantom.

Phantoms have half their current estus charges when in a host's world, rounded down (i.e. 1 flask turns into 0, 3 turns into 1, etc).

You can learn more on covenants here.

I will start DS2

You will vomit over DS2 after playing this.

The combat mechanics have been drastically improved (from my point of view). I recall Smelter demon, pathetic fight even if I was in a closely packed room, fight melee with Fire demon without utilizing the huge space in the cave, it will be more challenging. Pursuer boss was tough till I could barely survive his 1-2hits, after increasing my vigor using 10k souls of Giant, it took only 2 tries. I just recently played a bit of both DS2 and DS1 to exhaust the DS3 hype, DS2's combat is not exactly satisfying. The variety of weapons and spells is good, but lacks basic refined combat which DS3 concentrates on. DS3 is quality over quantity. Just look above, the hate for Smouldering lake and Irithyll dungeon, cant say the same for DS2. But yes, not everything about DS2 is bad, its just overall DS3 has much more to it than DS2.

Oh ok. Thanks for making my opinion for me. I thought I could decide what I liked or not but I am sure you know what I would like more than I would.

Thanks for the assist. :)

The 2nd half of my 2nd sentence clearly says 'from my point of view'. The first line was for BigBoss, followed by my opinion.

Instead of being sarcastic in a couple of lines, you could have just stated what precisely you liked in DS2 that made you feel its better.

Constructive criticism or sarcasm?

Journey has come to an end. qxVOl83.png

Got that best ending "The Usurpation of Fire". I absolutely loved it.

Good stuff:

  • Performance is great. There is some stuttering in Irithyll dungeon, but that's about it. All maxed, 1440p, ran smooth. No errors or crashes.
  • Fantastic music throughout the game. The ending music was just too good.
  • Excellent presentation of boss fights.
  • Very good improvement in every aspect of the game compared to Dark Souls II.
  • Variety of enemies and movesets keeping the combat fresh and challenging.
  • Huge areas and rewarding exploration.
  • Mini-bosses
  • Lot of content, and overall the challenge doesn't degrade once you level. If anything it keeps getting better.
  • Co-op just adds lot of fun.
  • PvP is great too, mainly when you go 1v1 or 2v2.

Could have been better:

  • The visuals and presentation of the boss fights were great, but most of them weren't challenging.
  • The optional areas could use some exploration as well. Consumed king's garden and Untended graves felt like lazy design.
  • There are plenty of weapons and armor, but you rarely make use of them. You pick up any weapon type and you are good to finish the entire game. I wanted to try all types of weapons over time, but the weapon I got early in-game was just too good to change. I did still tried GS and Axes. Same goes to armor. All those fancy armors just seem to be for visual appearance while having pretty poor stats.

Bad stuff:

  • Still no proper keyboard icons.
  • Camera issues when playing with KB+M.
  • Some boss fights.

Good fights:

  • Lothric, Younger Prince
  • Nameless King - too good for an optional fight.
  • Soul of Cinder
  • Aldrich, Devourer of Gods
  • Dragonslayer Armour

Trash fights:

  • Crystal Sage
  • Deacons of the Deep
  • Yhorm the Giant
  • Champion Gundyr
  • Ancient Wyvern

Hardest for me was the High Lord Wolnir fight. Other boss fights were okayish. The presentation and moves at least keeps your fun meter alive. Abyss Watchers / Pontiff for example.

Game of the year so far. Praise the sun.
