And yeah you need to branch out, there are great games beyond AAA stuff and WRPGs. In fact this game actually has a lot of voice acting when compared with other JRPGs. Final Fantasy games have become more chatty of late but that's because they have started coming closer to western RPGs.

My friend who is a wrpg enthusiast also complains alot about the voice acting in japanese games. I think it's more of a case of not growing up playing jrpgs/not being a regular jrpg consumer. The comparison is always in terms of wrpgs's presentation. Not their fault though, once they start playing a few more jrpgs/japanese games they start picking up where their presentation priorities/essence lies.

If you're asking those questions the game probably isn't for you. But I'll answer anyway...

(Mild spoilers so those who don't want the structure of the game ruined, please scroll past!)

You need to finish the game multiple times to get the real ending. It's not a traditional game where you do all side quests and main quests and be done with it. When you finish it for the first time it's basically 1/3rd of the game. Next playthrough has new side quests and different events, the third playthrough is completely different. So yeah you need to finish it at least three times and then load saves to get the final two endings.

(end spoilers)

The whole thing took me around 38 hours on Normal difficulty, I did around 85% of the side quests according to the game.

Boss fights are like other Platinum games than Souls. I found them fairly easy on Normal, I don't think I died to a single boss. There's a lot of focus on twin-stick shooter style gameplay. If you don't like that you'll hate many of the combat encounters. The melee combat is like a mix of Bayonetta and MGR with a lot of different weapons and shooting with your pod is a core mechanic as well.

The praise the game has been getting is mostly for it's weird but awesome story, it's presentation and characters. Sure the gameplay is amazing and you'll get some mileage out of that. But if you expect something like HZD with pretty graphics and an accessible blockbuster-style story then prepare to be disappointed. This is not that kind of game at all. Even the story is not straightforward to understand. Lot of philosophical themes that require thought. You may even get frustrated and think you wasted money on it.

However, if you want to branch out from AAA games and play something different it doesn't get better than this game.

  • 3 weeks later...

That name of the DLC tho. Is there any season pass of this game?

I'm almost done with ME:A and not planning to finish Nioh anytime soon. Might pick this up with season pass or DLC

So this game has so many quests. It's kinda overwhelming.

My advice: don't do side quests until you unlock fast travel. Also note that all side quests are not meant to be done in a single run. You can do them in subsequent playthroughs. The game doesn't truly end until ending E.
