I didn't find Umi-Bozu to be much of a problem (but that was mostly because I invested in the fire buff onmyo skill). I think the next block for me was...

Yuki-Onna

But she honestly wasn't as bad as Hino-enma.

Saika

is also somewhat challenging but it's mostly due to the arena. When you face him again in a sub-mission he goes down like a chump.

Umi wasn't much of a problem for me too provided it gave the opportunity to fight. But that opening attack though

Yeah I remember you being frustrated with the insta-kill eye beam. Somehow that never happened to me and I've fought him multiple times, he never opened with the beam right out of the gate.

A good example of how we all perceive difficulty differently. Onryoki was no problem for me at all, he killed me a couple of times but I got past him relatively easily. Hino-enma however was responsible for almost 10 deaths until I finally managed it. The Archer's garb and an anti-paralysis charm helped a lot against her paralysis attacks.

Yep, onryoki difficulty is mostly due to his sheer size, the cramped space and his devastating attacks. Once I found his pattern, it was not that difficult. Most of his attacks can be easily avoided (except his Swift back turn) once you take time to study his moves without rushing to just defeat him. When I defeated him finally, I did not even notice it !

Face off against hino enma, what's that attack ? Current ? I didn't really understand how did William end up here ? What was the objective of this quest ?

Try not to think too much about the story. However, every mission has a text blurb that tells you why you're doing it. That said, the story isn't the game's strengths and gets more and more convoluted as the game goes. It's actually pretty simple to understand but the way it is presented is awkward as hell. They expect you to read the in-game diary and know a little about Japanese history.

Anyway, Hino-enma does Paralysis attacks. You can find the archer's garb in the mission area as well as a charm that resists paralysis. The fight is much more manageable with those as it gives you some room for error.

Also regarding story, in case you guys don't know, most of the events except magical and fantasy stuff actually happened in Japan. Almost all characters are real historical figures including William.

Yep, the game actually prompted me to look into the actual historical figures, it's some pretty interesting stuff.

William takes too freaking long to recover if he's staggered by an enemy.

A big part of learning the combat is to not go into a staggered state. In other words, yeah git gud.

Perhaps I took a longer break from the game than required. I will stop playing now and continue after I'm back from a small trip.
