GAMEPLAY

The King of Fighters XIV features full 3D models like in The King of Fighters: Maximum Impact, but on a 2D plane like in Street Fighter IV and its updates, while keeping the same formula used in the previous installments. The Hyper Drive system from the last game is no longer present and has been replaced with a new version of "Max Mode" from earlier games in the series. In Max mode, the player can perform unlimited EX special moves for a short period of time, and the timer changes depending on what position their character is in. The characters have three types of Supers: the returning "Super Special Moves" and "Neomax Super Special Moves" (the latter of which are only usable in Max mode), and a new type called "Climax Super Special Moves". Climax Super Special Moves are the strongest types in the game and will require a total of three power gauges (two with Max mode on). The game also features the "Just Defend" mechanic from Garou: Mark of the Wolves. The HD thrust system now makes the opponent hit the wall and crumple for follow up attacks.[5] The game is designed to play like The King of Fighters XIII, but just during Max mode where the player can use EX moves and three levels of Supers that can be canceled in their order of hierarchy. For beginners, there will be the automatic and simple "Rush Combo".[6]

It looks much better than when it was revealed , But I still wish they just used some other engine like Unreal 4 with actual Shaders and shadows. The models and stage quality are good but it feels very dated.

It'll probably come to PC later but if it doesn't have cross play, the PC version will be DOA (and not the good kind).

Also want to get for steelbook lol

Really doubt the Fighting system in any game will be better than SF5 for a while. But KOF13 was super good , this game is also looking good. But Animations are a little lacking , it looks like an MK game. I dont even mind the PS2 graphics.

Its because the input buffer is very small , so you need to be very precise in your inputs otherwise it just feels sluggish .... Back to SFV it is. Lets see if they tweak it by release.

Its KOF , what did you expect?... All them are good except 12 because the company was in some deep trouble and just rushed a really buggy game. It will take at least a solid year or two of play to see if it is truly better than KOF13 or not. But as of right now its a solid entry , the weird input issue in the demo is gone and the controls feel much better. But KOF 13 still looks so much better , I wish they just stuck with 2D.

Reviews dont really matter for Fighting games unlike other SP games. Its like reviewing Dota or League of Legends. Its not like most reviewers are super proficient in the genre or anything. They dont really judge it based on gameplay. You cant really judge a Fighting game( Or any MP game ) in just 1-2 days. It takes years to fully discover the depths of the system.

This is pretty much how it goes.

Does it play like a fighting game?

7/10

Does it have a lot of modes?

8/10

Does it have any glaring issues like online or something?

-1

Did we receive some $$$?

+1

Unless there is some glaring issue ( like online not working, lack of content or game being buggy ..etc) , pretty much every Fighting game gets the same 75-85 metacritic. SF5 is sold as a platform not just a single release. There is huge difference in content SF5 at launch and SF5 of now.

Even Tekken 7 is going to get a safe score of 8-8.5 everywhere :P

Been playing this for the past two weeks now. Everything about this game is top notch , So much variety in the characters. I just wish it had got a bigger budget :( . It has a very dated feel because of the graphics and animation.

Execution is just as hard as KOF13 though , would not recommend it to beginners. But if you dedicate some time its definitely a lot of fun.
