Worth getting a PS Vita in 2016

Recommended Posts

PS Vita is very much a JRPG machine. If you like Japanese games, then the Vita is very much worth it in 2016. Some major Vita JRPGs and VNs and other games I can recommend are -

  • Persona 4 Golden (Obviously)
  • The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel
  • Tales of Hearts R
  • Ys: Memories of Celceta
  • Gravity Rush (If you can go for PS4 version; that is better)
  • Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth (Same PS4 version is better if you have it)
  • Steins;Gate (VN; but an excellent story)
  • Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward
  • Danganronpa Trigger Happy Havoc
  • Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair
  • Danganronpa Another Episode: Ultra Despair Girls

Besides the above there are many other Japanese games on vita as well if you are interested in those such as:

  • Lost Dimension (Sry Lost Odyssey is the X360 game; my bad typed it by mistake)
  • Corpse Party: Blood Drive
  • Soul Sacrifice
  • Toukiden
  • Atelier Series (Rorona and Ayesha)
  • Freedom Wars

and many others.

Basically, Vita right now is only for Japanese games. If you are looking for Western games, you will find them very limited here (basically I guess Uncharted: Golden Abyss and Child of Light are the highly rated ones. There's a Killzone as well on here I think).

As far as racing games go, I am not a racing player so can't comment on it. Western games are miles ahead on PS4 and other home consoles. I get much more use out of PS4 for those games. Not much worth in getting a Vita for those.

So in summary, if you like Japanese games Vita is worth it in 2016. Otherwise, no, not much.

@roun90 thanks for the cumulative list. This helped a lot.

P. S. All of these are available on PSN Store right?

Yes.

And pick up a minimum 16gb mem card to fit games in.

Also keep in mind the vita cannot have multiple accounts so if you plan on switching accounts for different regions it helps to have more than one memory card.

Also download CMA on PC so you can back up the games to your PC if you run out of space on the card. Its better than redownloading.

Yup, all the games I listed are already released, so most, if not all should be available on (Indian) PS Store right now. You can even get physical copies if you want. Some games, like Corpse Party and Trails of Cold Steel had special edition physicals at very reasonable rates.

Also, all those games are native PS Vita games. I have not listed all the Japanese games available. I am also not even counting the PSP games that you can buy from PSN Store and play on Vita.

P.S.: Some of the games I listed such as Trails of Cold Steel, Lost Dimension etc. are also available on PS3. Zero Escape is also available on 3DS (but the 3DS version contains a game breaking bug that you have to avoid; better to see the net for the bug details before playing the game rather than corrupting your game save and starting again). Some such as Danganronpa (except Ultra Despair Girls) are available on Steam. And some such as Tales Hearts R, Ys: Memories of Celceta, Freedom Wars etc. are true PS Vita exclusives.

Also, for some reason Digimon Cyber Sleuth is not available on Indian PSN. It is a good game, but to play it on Vita, you will have to buy the physical version (Playasia should have it if you cannot find it in India) or have 2 memory cards (one with Indian PSN account and one with US PSN account) and buy it off the US PSN store. I myself played the game on PS4.
