Battlefield 1

I too thought the same, but it starts to grow on you. The map isn't the best but still worth playing.

This map is overall a good example of how the recent BattleField maps have been designed. Solidly average and I think just like Golmud, Silk Road will feature quite heavily in the map rotation scheme.

Also I do not see St. Quentin map debuted earlier playing out majorly different because it seemed to be built on the same logic as this map. Clusters of buildings around two-three cap points with open ground between the more far flung objectives spread about the map.

Anyway, the main reason I am here. Played 15 hours of the BETA and honestly the game did not hook me in any way. WW1 is just the set dressing for the game and there has been minimal influence from the setting onto the gameplay. DICE either has lost any will to innovate any further and take risks or they have just grown so comfortable of their staple formula that anything that will detract from a streamlined experience is thrown out.

So, just like the original rundown, here is the list of everything I experienced.

PRO's,

  • 3D spotting has been pretty much eliminated. Spamming Q does not pop up any icon or magically mark someone on everyone's mini-map
  • Consistent team-play by teams holding a majority of flags will win you the game irrespective of the enemy team getting a Behemoth or yourself down the line
  • There are some wonderful audio cues if you are capping a point, getting healed up or picking up ammo
  • They tweaked the CONQUEST ticket system so that it at-least allows for a good experience (you get closer matches and Behemoths are somewhat useful)

CON's

  • Bullet spread on fully automatic weapons (SMG's and LMG's) is RNG. Semi-auto rifles / carbines given to the MEDIC class are decently accurate but the Cel Riggoti also seems to suffer from some random misses
  • Thanks to the map design there is no need to play anything but the SCOUT or the ASSAULT, no one revives (MEDIC) or resupplies (SUPPORT) so often times when you are in a jam it is simply better to die / redeploy
  • Thanks to game-play design on CONQUEST it does not matter if you play as MEDIC or SUPPORT because dying no longer contributes to the ticket ticker
  • Thanks to RUSH being a nerfed shite-pile of a game-mode with only 12 players per team there is absolutely zero fun in this game mode. That plus the abundance of light-tanks / heavy-tanks in this game mode means whichever team has the better drivers dominates
  • Light tanks are absolutely broken, heavy tanks / landships are manageable since they need a compliment of gunners to be fully effective in practise
  • There is still no effort by DICE to provide for an in-game VoIP system basically continuing the problem of team-play that has plagued the game for the past two iterations. You cannot always play with friends and if you are in a public match with strangers suddenly doing rote tactics like grouping together against a tank becomes a chore (or BattleField moment)
  • The more or less useless mini-map eats up a good chunk of the bottom left corner which could be cleaned up
  • Airplanes are an annoyance because being a good pilot is of no consequence to how the team performs because you cannot cap flags (except for E on this map)
  • Startling lack of effective transportation options. God save you if you end up on E sans transport or want to traverse the open spaces between the flag clusters as you will be sniper fodder

MEH,

  • DICE has pretty much killed the tenants of team-play by making the MEDIC and SUPPORT classes useless for most of scenarios (at-least on this map)
  • Melee system just as broken as ever, getting magically attracted into pre-canned animation loops of death or cavalry sabres killing you even after you have dodged out of their reach
  • FROSTBITE legacy bugs coming up even now (after four previous titles on the same), spawning without weapons, mantling a wall and being reset, reloading and having an empty magazine
  • Thanks to the deliniation of class roles and weapon systems, everything is dependent on map design. If DICE's map designers decide to roll out more maps like this one and St. Quentin's Scar, good luck playing as the MEDIC and SUPPORT in the final game
  • Because accuracy is a game of RNG, you can sometimes kill two-three targets with one magazine / clip worth of ammunition and other times even after emptying your entire magazine you will be gunned down by the enemy
  • Behemoth's are a cheap way out on actually trying to balance the game-play systems, they allow a badly mauled team to stage a comeback but if you can take them out fast enough or just focus on the objectives away from their influence, they are pretty useless to the overall outcome

Overall, highly disappointed in the demo / BETA / whatever you want to call it.

Still think it will sell a decent number of copies, just that I would not get carried into the hype machine.

I was never really completely sure about getting this Day 1 and the beta has pushed me into a wait and watch camp. I think the game has potential. It needs a fair bit of tweaking though. And I need to see if the rest of the maps are completely garbage like this one. So probably get it after the first big patch if the maps are good.

Weird how Oct went from "Where am I gonna find time to play TF2 AND BF1?" to "What am I gonna play in Oct?".

Horses in bf1 take care of snipers. They can't hit you and all it takes is a single swing. Just avoid C. Lol....

You cannot go around stabbing every sniper, everywhere. =/

Skyrim. LOL I would rather watch paint dry. Or have a Snyder movie marathon.

Edit I am NOT paying 4k for Gears either. Certainly not on the sh*t store.

Dishonored maybe. Lets see.

BF1 is getting a PC retail release?

I thought EA were done with that in India.

No, for PC exclusive to ORIGIN.

But knowing Zodak and his penchant for spamming irrelevant questions putting it there. EA is pulling out of retail on PC side.

Ohhhh ok.

That retail price is f**king bananas.

Do not know the price on Microsoft's or SONY's digital fronts.

Although I expect it to be only a couple hundred bucks cheaper.

People still let it pass you know.

I guess but just avoid C and keep sprinting. Yesterday I realized that my horse can even climb the cliff (or whatever it is) at F and kill everything by just running around in circles. Road kills+sword kills. I think it was my best horsie game....had like 42-43 horsie kills (horsie baby).

Edit- 44 dollars on Cdkeys ~ 3k. :P

Scouts anyone ?

Still I missed couple I guess

lol nice. Best place to hunt scouts is this:

Also me and one guy sniped a lot by taking these positions. If 2-3 guys take this spot, unless a tank or a plane attacks, you are almost unbeatable:
