Hot-Drake-Pixel Posted December 2, 2008 Report Share Posted December 2, 2008 Firmware 2.53 available now We reported earlier about the leaked information involving Firmware v2.53 and its expected November 26 release date. Oddly, November 26 came and went without any Firmware update in sight. Fortunately, Firmware v2.53 was officially released tonight and is ready for downloading. As we mentioned previously, this update allows for full screen Flash functionality (Hulu fans rejoice!). It also adds "Live movie (using RTMP format) playability," though we're not too sure what that is. Anyway, enjoy the update and improved web browser viewing! Firmware 2.60 will be dropping imminently and will bring with it several new features. The photo gallery is a new installable feature which gives you a large variety of ways of sorting and displaying your photos. You can see more of that in the video above. DivX 3.11 is also now supported by PS3s, as well as guest access to the PlayStation Store. This means that whether you've signed up or not you can now browse the PlayStation Store and see all the cool stuff you're missing out on. No doubt there'll be some further, secret features included in 2.60. If you find anything else be sure to let us know. We'll update as soon as the new firmware goes live. The PS3 firmware update (v2.60) is designed primarily to enhance the system’s media capabilities. The key feature is a new Photo Gallery application, which delivers a suite of tools for sorting through and displaying your digital photo collection. Digital pictures can be organized in groups according to various criteria, including the camera used to take the photos, the event date and time, colors in the photos, as well as the number, ages, or facial expressions of the people pictured. You can also create slideshows set to music and build photo playlists with an easy-to-use interface. The Photo Gallery application will need to be installed separately from the XMB after you update your PS3’s firmware.
