What difference does it make if we apply the US update or the UK update? I've been updating my PS3 thru the US updates from the very beginning, but never ever saw anything strange or something like that

idk but on the site it says in bold and all that don't apply on other region systems and all.......

PS3 firmware 2.7 details leaked?

A thread on the Game Trailers' forum claims to have the details on what we can expect from the next PS3 firmware drop.

Nothing's been confirmed by Sony and we'll ask for a 'no comment' when people turn up for work. All this info comes from a source who is said to work "in an R&D department at Sony". Stranger things have happened...

Friends List:

- Voice Messaging is now available as an alternative to text after selecting a user on the friends list. Voice message recordings are capped at 30 seconds.

- Home Integration: Saved PlayStation Home avatar photos can be selected as photo ID for Gamer Card/Friends List.

- Trophy number and Gamer Level are listed under Friend names for quick reference.

Gamer Card & Trophies:

- Gamer Card layout has been changed to more closely resemble the PlayStation Store aesthetic.

- Past Trophy information can be viewed in detail by selecting "Recent Trophy History" option.

- Newly acquired trophies auto-sync in the background

- Server infrastructure for Trophies has been optimized. Resulting in faster retrieval time for Gamer Card and Trophy information.

In-Game XMB:

- Loading time for In-Game XMB has been drastically reduced, resulting in a more seamless in-game experience.

- "Theme settings" options while in-game is now available, allowing custom themes to be applied to the In-Game XMB.

- Internet Browser can now be accessed while in-game.

- Voice messaging and voice chat options can be used while in-game.

- Options that cannot be used in the XMB during game sessions are grayed out (but still selectable) to eliminate user accessibility confusion.

PS3 firmware update to coincide with R2 patch

Looks like a PS3 firmware update is happening today or tomorrow, folks. We reported details on the upcoming Resistance 2 patch which includes a number of features, one being multiple PSN log-ins. Many of our readers correctly chimed in, saying this is a feature not possible with the current PS3 firmware.

We got confirmation of a pending PS3 firmware update through our comments section. Insomniac Games' James Stevenson responded to our post clarifying the situation. "Resistance 2 is the first game to fully log-in two PSN accounts. LBP only logs you in locally, and does not register both accounts as online through PSN. This is a big difference, and what is required for split-screen online co-op with other folks."

Here's the smoking gun: "And it was dependent on a Sony update, hence why it wasn't in when the game shipped." If the R2 patch is available on March 26th, then a new PS3 firmware update will be necessary today or tomorrow. Obviously it will allow for multiple PSN sign-ins, but will it feature any other improvements? Stay tuned

GDC: “PS3 Firmware 2.70 definitely this week. Developers got it yesterday”

Just got this from a prominent PS3 developer at GDC: “PS3 Firmware 2.70 definitely this week. Developers got it yesterday.”

The update was rumoured to have gone live this afternoon, but was apparently withdrawn.

This source is concrete, kids. Watch for an announcement in the next few days.
