THE 'PS3 and PSP FIRMWARE' THREAD

THE DIRECTOR

Recommended Posts

my console has stopped reading discs after updating to firmware 3.40. It was purchased in April, 2008.

1) Can this be a firmware problem or is it hardware related? If I wait for the next firmware and update it, are there chances that the drive can come back to life.

2) Will Sony replace my console at 50% cost or will they repair it?

3) If I don't go to Sony, can the drive be repaired from a third party? Is it advisable or should I go to Sony only?

Sorry if this has been answered before. Really pissed at the moment.

1. Have no clue

2. They'll replace it. Since your console is out of 1 yr warranty (assuming the console was purchased in India/PAL region), you'll have to pay 50% of the cost of a new console ie 10k. But you'll have to provide a proof of purchase ie a bill and warranty card for sony to accept your console.

3. Sony should accept your console if all conditions of the above point are fullfilled. I wouldn't go to a 3rd party dealer if I were you. If sony are accepting your console then you should give it to them. You'll get a brand new console (but may/ may not get warranty on it :P ).

That 75% policy applies to certain Sony consumer electronics, but not to the PS3. So that person has been misinformed. It is best to call the service centre to clear up such doubts. The policy is a flat 50% off on the current MRP of the PS3, no matter when it was purchased. So even if you bought a PS3 at launch in 2007 for Rs 39,990, you will only have to pay 50% of the current MRP (Rs 19,990). Of course, within the 1 year warranty period, replacement is free.

Yes I read that. I tried to explain the stupid service centre guy who had no knowledge at all. He just refused to understand me. I also called the Sony toll free no and explained them. They said its upto the service centre how much to charge. I have pmed Sam for help. Lets see what happens.

Don't just speak to the receptionist. Try contacting the manager or the Delhi head office. You'll get a faster response.

CAUTION: Do not update to 3.41 as of now if you intend to upgrade your HDD anytime soon.. it is having issues (probably because of the incremental update feature) and may corrupt your new hard drives..
