Idk man. If a game is so boring that you feel like dropping it then you should be able to drop it and say it's a bad game without forcing yourself to play more.

Its the games job to keep you engaged and if a game is failing at that then it's a mark against the game.

The game def has pacing issues but I can sort of understand what the Dev's were going for with it. The game basically starts as a survival game and slowly becomes an full action title. It's also one of the few games where the shooting mechanics are directly tied with your characters skill points and levelling up  so as you start the game your character is absolutely terrible at gunplay but once you upgrade his skills even basic stuff like aiming becomes much much better.

The first 2 camps and their leaders/ characters are just filler and add absolutely nothing to the story. The game actually starts once you reach the third camp which takes around 4-5 hrs I guess. it's also a huge game, if I'm not wrong it's sony biggest AAA game (Lenght) by their smallest and inexperienced team so they bit a lot more than they could chew for eg the game also had a choice and consequence system which was removed just months before release.

Fellas, just installed this game. Just to check real quickly, is there anything that is missable post the completion of the main storyline? Side activities? Collectibles etc?

No

Ya, in 2014. 7 years ago. It's like I said, back then this was a 10. Today its not as good because the current and more recent games are better.

Imo, TLOU wasn't a 10/10 game even in the year it launched in 2013.

I honestly agree with this. Back then the story, visuals and everything was awesome but the gunplay is seriously screwed. Even uncharted 1 which was release before TLOU had better gunplay. The story in UC2 was actually better.

Nailed it. Perfect description. Altho HZD was also just as big. So was FF7 R.

What does any of that has to do with this statement:-

If one game is genre defining, doesn’t make the other one poo poo

Agreed. For me tho days gone was the genre defining of zombies, story and combat.

Took a break from gaming after finishing RDR2. Just started this on PC a couple of days back. Really starting to enjoy this game.

One thing I wanted to ask... should I be checking guides for miss-able quests or should I just go in blind and do the quests as they become available?

U keep recieving quests until they are all done. Keep an eye on the storylines menu. If u want to do every last thing then make sure there isn't a single thing left there. And secondly, when u r done with everything. Just hit options and if the last option is reset jobs and ur storylines r all done then u r actually done with the game.

Glad u r enjoying it. Its a gr8 game.

Any tips? How to deal with infestations? Lots of zombies start chasing me after i burn the nest.

Also what skills to invest in to make the game most fun?

- Initially take on smaller infestations only.

- Best to clear nests during daytime

- Upgrade so you get one hit kill for heavies

- Stealth is your friend

- Complete as many side quests as possible

- Have fun, it's a great game

Goddamn this game is so long. Thought i was near the end but then unlocked a whole new area.

I think this games biggest problem is not giving you enough tools to deal with hordes. Maybe they come in later idk. They should have taken a look at horizon hero dawn with the amount and types of trip wires, mines, and what-not that aloy can place.

The only time I had an issue is with the first small horde you encounter.

There is enough traps, mollys, terrain, stamina, slo mo perks to destroy the hordes.

knowing how many there are, escape routes to use, choke points, traps etc are key. Make sure to keep your bike topped up on fuel and extra ammo ready incase you need to gtfo

Lol, I had the same reaction. It drags on too long. At one point, the game will have a mission that'll act as a horde tutorial. You unlock a new "tool" then which helps a lot in dealing with them.

Finished this game finally. Phew.

Pros:

  • The last 3 or 4 missions are great and where I had the most fun. Sawmill horde was fun. Had to retry it many times until i got it.
  • I really liked the surrounding cast with Boozer, Rikki and Iron Mike being my favourites. Weaver also was one cool motherf**ker.
  • Taking out bandit camps was fun.
  • The Hordes tech is amazing. I hope they manage to reuse in their next game in some other way. Watching them "flow" never gets old.
  • The anxiety when chased by a horde is unmatched. Quite the adrenaline rush. The game does these moments really well.
  • Riding around Oregon was my favourite part of the game. The game looks incredibly beautiful at times with some the rolling hills providing some great scenery.

Cons:

  • The biggest sin this game commits is how to long it takes to get to that exciting point. Its also way too far up it's own a*s about its story. The flashblack missions are the worst where all you're restricted to doing is walking slowly
  • I think this is an unpopular opinion but I didn't like Deacon. Too much of an a**hole to everyone, even the people trying to help him.
Spoiler

Towards the end there's a scene where Sarah hands him a new requisition form and in it all she writes is "I never stopped loving you". Its such a sweet moment and all he does is scowl. Such a chutiya.

His reaction to finally finding her is also so anti climatic.

  • Honestly the story (and the story missions) missions are the worst part of the game. So many useless missions which are just cutscenes. Others just run off the mill fetch quests.
  • There's a general lack of polish. Like dialogue from one event will overlap with some other event. (Like Deacon will say something to himself about the environment during a radio call while someone else is talking). I had to restart missions a couple of times because the required stuff didn't spawn. The Reacher boss fight is hyped up so much and then he died in 2 hits with the shotty. I had more trouble with a zombie bear than the Reacher.
  • Random question mark missions are boring af and the most filler rng sh*t ever. I did 4 question marks and then never again did them again. Of those 4, one didn't even work properly. Some footsteps leading to nowhere.
  • Selling pelts, plants and bounties feel very useless. Never felt the need for it. Feels like they wanted to mimic RDR2 and just copy pasted something.

Spoiler

Also he has a tattoo on his face saying SARAH FOREVER that's very visible and nobody at the military base managed to make the connection. He even lies and says his wife's name was Beth AND NOBODY  QUESTIONS HIM WHY DO YOU HAVE A TATTOO THAT SAYS SARAH. Especially that they have an officer named Sarah that he's spending a suspiciously high amount of time with. At least mention it? Someone from the art team must have added the tattoo after the story was decided because it makes the colonel look really stupid.
