Hot-Drake-Pixel
IT WORKS!!!! IT'S ALIVE!!!! IT'S EFFIN ALIVE!!!! DUDE!! YOU ARE GOD OF CONSOLE HARDWARE's. You should contribute something for this RRoD thing on x360's as that is widespread. BTW how much did you shell out for the spare? @reaper: This should cheer you up. If you want I can arrange for BD spare drive from singapore.
ghb
IT WORKS!!!! IT'S ALIVE!!!! IT'S EFFIN ALIVE!!!! Awesome dude! Seems you've been having more luck than me. The service centre ppl called me up today afternoon to say that my PS3 is back with them. After paying them a visit I found out that the damn thing was in exactly the same state as I had given it. They got some DVD movie to play (the only media I didnt try running), got all happy and made me drive 20km or so. So after shouting at them for about 10-15 mins I had no choice but to head back home dejected with still no PS3 for the holidays.
pixeljunkie
The spare part costs aprox 208RMB(remnibi) which is ~25USD or Rs.1000/-.... Absolutely no soldering required although you'll need a soldering iron to heat the locking screws in order to unscrew them easily where are you put up at hotpixel??? Don't you think.
pixeljunkie
nope you don't need to flash anything.....and if you do manage to get your hands on a spare drive(entire drive enclosure) then just swap the logic boards.....it's simple

Check with PJ, if you need the whole drive or the motor. If it is just the motor then I think some amount of shouldering would be required, finger crossed. Not sure about the price either. PJ, can you share the prices with us? Once we know what to get, I just have to make few phone calls.
pixeljunkie
@ ghb....me thinks those slimebags pulled a fast one on you.... check to see if the firmware is 2.10....the could've fooled you into watching a movie(possibly divx) streamed off the HDD while pretending to load the DVD movie into the broken drive....double checked a month ago with every possible form of media.....
