PS- another question I jus noticed on top of teh outer package on the contents, its says 'Euro AV connector plug' I dont remember seeing this in the package, did u guys get it??...hope this doesnt cause any trouble!

they will tell u to get everthing. but dont take the game. on replacement if u get the same bundle then u will get another copy of gt5prologue which u can sell.

yea thanks stormy ill try that!!!

^^I didnt get a new GT5 bundle..i got only the inner box one. I gave only the innner box so thats why maybe..try giving with the GT5P box.

Ambar how long did they take to replace ur console??....and is it a done deal that they will replace the unit??

According to the poll, there's a 46.7% SOD failure rate among GI members.

yea MT its really disheartening, I mean one of the main reasons I went in for the Ps3 was the good reliability(ofcourse the next gen hw, and blueray were also worthy attributes), but this is pathetic, I mean come to think of it, well worth getting the xbox, and saving a lot of money, my only concern is that wat guarantee do i have that the replacement wont suffer the SOD, and this time with reduced warranty.....sigh!

My ps3 is going fine so far except for a few freezes during GTA IV. On seeing the increasing volume of failure rates I got a little worried and concerned.

So I got a few questions for the SOD affected people.

1. Was your ps3 kept Horizontal/Vertical ? Where was it kept (open/enclosed) ?

2. Did you keep your ps3 on standby or powered it off from the mains when not using it?

3. How long was your average duration of play and how frequently did you play?

4. How often did you play your DVDs or any other media discs(pls. specify which) ?

5. Did you leave your discs inside the ps3 when it was powered off/ on standby ?

This could -maybe- help everyone in figuring out some preventative measures

i think when my bro suffered SOD he was playing Fifa 08 then the game stuck so he ejected and pulled the BD with great force(which damaged the Drive) and then he became a victim of SOD

My PS3 stopped reading discs right now. I haven't used my PS3 in 4 months for Gaming. Only when a update comes out do I start my PS3. Updated to newest version and put in MGS4. Was working fine and suddenly out of the blue a DISC Symbol on the Top Left corner with a Question Mark showed up. I cleaned the disc and even tried GTA IV. Absolutely nothing, no detection, nothing.

I have had a modded 360 for 2 years now without a problem, it's weird to see a PS3 which I purchased few months back to die out of inactivity. Again, it just died because I never booted it at all.

I have warranty slip and everything, any idea how long does replacement take? I am just glad that I have warranty on it and it's still in that time period. I would be devastated if anything happened to the PS3 since I am looking forward to Resistance 2 and Killzone 2 like anything.

akS !

hi,

just got word that its been fixed. someone that works on PS3's near Crawford Market. They charged him 3000 bucks and he had sent across only the drive after removing it from the unit. its what i have heard, no idea about the details.

i have been told that the system shows some hitherto unseen menu options and that he is unable to play DVD's etc thought he could before.

Sony should stop treating OOR consoles like aliens. Does not reflect very good on a multinational.

On the contrary, one of my Bose speakers busted after 3 yrs of use, I had got it from US, I took it to local Bose service center, they told me that they don't believe in repairing and hence replaced the stuff for me free of cost. It was carrying 5 yrs international warranty. After this incidence I guess I would always buy Bose because I feel more secured.

Coming back to Sony, I think most of us here would be having a OOR console for the very fact of BD- region A support (irrespective of the price difference). We should have another thread and a poll on what console we all have.

well i have a PS3 console i bought from here (was a gift) i think Sony really needs to consider people who have grey market consoles, maybe not replace them but atleast fix them somehow. but then again, anyone who does buy from the grey market is aware of the risks... i mean after the warranty period is over all consoles are equal anyway. Right?
