I AM LATEST VICTIM OF SOD (or Disc not reading but everything else is working) :(

And currently i am in Abu Dhabi, Purchsed my PS3 in INDIA, i spoke to SONY GULF & they cannot help me get it replaced or repaired :(

I have mailed Sony INDIA reagrding the matter, I'll Keep you posted about the progress :(

Any of you guys can help me solve the problem, I upgraded from 2.53 to 2.60 and after that the PS3 is not recognising any of my discs ;)

SOny Gulf only replaces the consoles, they dont repair it they said. :) :mad2: :P

Can anybody here Help me out Sam, Aman ???

Does it read DVD / CDs??

if its really a SOD, then

1. u are better off sending the PS3 with someone coming to India and getting it replaced.

2. If its too much of a hassle, try finding a repair shop locally and get the lens module replaced.

3. If you are one of those daring types, get the lens module locally or import it and do it ur self .. its not that complicated really + i can help you with that.

Please bear in mind the the last two solutions will void your warranty.

I faced the same problem too and followed the third method ... thats was almost an year ago and im not facing any problems till date with my PS3. (mine was an NTSC-J console.)

xXx, dude, do the repair locally, even i faced the same problem, heck in my situation, ps3 used to read every other cd/dvd's but not the games and mine was NTSC-J. i faced it like after two months of purchase, i gave it to same place from where i brought and he returned me in 3-4 days i think and till now no problems at all dude :naughty: but using this option voids the official SONY warranty.

but if u can't find a local shop, u might just wanna send it to the place where it has warranty and they will probably send u the replaced console, i dunno much of this option, so people who has done this(sending to other region for repairs) can help u much better, so best of luck dude :naughty:

@raper someone is trying to boost up the post count there can't u see :naughty:

I've tried Reinstalling/lens cleaner too...but no good... :naughty:

will PM Pix-Junkie

duude go into factory mode.. start ur ps3 but dont remove finger, after 2 beeps remove it. then press again and turn it off.. then start again and it should go in factory mode.

then reset everything including firmware. i hope u have new one in ur usb!!

try it, it will work i think.

i think its the proper method but google it. sony stuck a factory mode in 2.5 firmware after getting blasted for 2.4 fw bricks..

I tried the Recovery Mode & it didnt worked out i.e. I used all the option in the recovery mode, but to no avail.

@reaper....i might try that second option, coz 3rd option would be risky on my part  though as it is the Warranty will expire in April '09 & that too INDIAN warranty, whereas i wud be staying in Abu Dhabi for coming years. though I am awaiting a reply from SONY INDIA, there was just an auto mailer from them to wait for their response :surprise:

surely will keep you all posted & yes Karoo...no double Posts

Yeah. They do offer paid services for out of region consoles. They will charge you approx 3-4 K to replace the drive lens and reading mechanism (at least thats what they charged for the PS2)

Bullshit there is no such paid service.I had an 80gb NTSC U/C ps3 with Backwards compatibility, mmc slots etc,got the same problem in 6days from purchase, took it sony service centre they told me they cant do a sh*t about it.Then my uncle had to call in a gang from madurai and get the money back from the wretched guy at ritchie street who sold it to me.THen i bought a ps3 from sony for 24990 on march 27 2008,august 4 2008 when i was playing cod4 online it froze.Restarted the ps3 then it stoppedreading all types of disc. Then gave it to sony, they replaced a brand new unit in 4 days all box packed.Sony india havent got the tiime nor the ppl to open a ps3 or a ps2 and repair them. All they do is replace the indian units
