Their first GAAS success.

It can reach much wider audience.

This is biggest release for any game in Japan, ever. Will likely dictate their future plans.

How is Splatoon 3 GAAS?

Haven't played it but it's not?

Would be pretty stupid of Nintendo if they stopped working/ improving it.

It's not. It's a full priced title with no micro-transactions that I know of. Also, why would it be stupid of Nintendo? They can always launch a sequel 3-4 years down the line.

Micro transactions?

What it has to do with being a GAAS title?

A lot of updates are offered for free by a lot of developers.

I had a discussion before, PPL were tying monetization with GAAS. Which I didn't understand.

It's a standalone iteration of the game. How is it a GAAS title.

It's splatoon 3 and not splatoon infinite. The game has launched with all the game modes on the cart.

In that case, Animal Crossing also qualifies as GaaS.

So this is neither their first nor the most successful GaaS title.
Animal crossing sold at least 3 times more.

Technically, Mario Kart 8 and Smash should qualify as GAAS. Both are anyway wildly successfully, and are being supported even now post launch. I think Nintendo calls them DLC instead.

Never played Splatoon, so no idea.

Isn't some ACNH element paywalled behind the more expensive NSO membership? Or has to be purchased separately? Dunno if that's GAAS or just DLC.

You can either purchase the DLC or access it with the NSO subscription.

Yup.

There’s a DLC called Happy home paradise which is locked behind NSO.

Also, you can’t visit other people’s islands if you don't have NSO.

Splatoon 2 also had Octo expansion, which is a single player DLC.

Its multiplayer also keeps getting periodic free updates with new maps, weapons, soundtrack, etc.

You should pick up Splatoon 3. The multiplayer turf wars are so addictive

Isn't this biggest launch ever in Japan for a game? Of any type.

They can start from there and aim to make it a cultural phenomenon in rest of the world as well.

They should aim to overthrow stuff like Fortnite, Minecraft, Roblox etc stuff that kids play.
