Update from DICE/EA :

  • Epic Star Cards, the highest tier of Star Cards available at launch, have been removed from Crates. To help keep everyone on a level playing field, these Star Cards will primarily be available through crafting, with the exception of special Epic Star Cards available through pre-order, deluxe, and starter packs.
  • You'll need to reach a certain rank to craft upgraded Star Cards. You won't be able to buy a bunch of Crates, grind everything up into crafting materials, and immediately use them to get super powerful Star Cards. You can only upgrade the ability to craft higher tier Star Cards by ranking up through playing the game.
  • Weapons are locked behind specific milestones. While a select few will be found in Crates, the rest can only be attained by play. Want to unlock a new weapon for your Heavy? Play as a Heavy and you’ll gain access to the class’s new weapons.
  • Class-specific gear and items can be unlocked by playing as them. As you progress through your favourite class, you’ll hit milestones granting you class-specific Crates. These will include a mix of Star Cards and Crafting Parts to benefit your class’s development.

It was the plan all along. tt4CRI5.png

Put something that will create a drama -> media rolling -> people panicking -> free advertising. Even negative publicity is good for business.

After few weeks -> WE LISTENED TO BLOG POST  and boom. OMGBBQ! They listened. Time to pre-order. Everything goes back to normal.

You're giving them too much credit.

Also people who defended this sh*t are like those who defended Xbone DRM. When MS did 180 on DRM policy they were like..

  • Point one literally means jack-sh*t. Everything has been removed from the crates, unless you simply fork over more money to, pre-order the game /buy 'starter packs'.
  • Guess who ranks up and gets to craft cards /upgrades /weapon unlocks before everyone else, the person who buys the game early /pre-orders it or wait for it forks over money for the 'starter packs'.

So, still no word on how levelling up works, even after it has been related that you need to unlock class-specific cards for XP accruement /levelling up equipment in that class.

Congratulations,

Starter packs don't contain anything more than what you can earn in 2-4 hours. It's 1500 currency. Each game you can get up to 200 and more if perform better.

That's less than 10 games. Yep, very game breaking.

Every multiplayer helps the person who has started early and not someone who purchased months later. That's one reason people buy online games at launch so they don't get left behind.

There was no consistency in the currency drops. You could win a game and get only 80 quid while losing a game netted me 150 on occasion in the BETA.

I am sure that EA DICE is going to release a press statement on this as well.

Why have a currency, card advantage in the PvP aspect of the game if you pre-order.

EA: We Will Most Likely Discount Star Wars Battlefront II Around the Movie’s Launch

Quote

We will most likely discount the game like we did last time around the movie launch, and maybe you’ll even see some selective discounts around the holidays, either Thanksgiving or Christmas. That’s the way the games business always has worked. And so if you see the title on discount, don’t read anything into that other than the fact that that’s the way you sell games in the holidays.

Buy it when movie launches at a discounted price.

Seems really, REALLY bad business strategy to turn away consumers knowingly with bad news and hoping those consumers will read a blog post and change their mind later. That is just incredibly dumb.

I am gonna go with the simpler explanation. They thought people would be ok with this sh*t. There was a sh*t storm. They changed it to salvage some lost sales.

Also I hear this will be discounted when the movie releases? If that is the case then you might as well wait a month or so.
